1940 Norton 16H

Recommended Posts

Well, i have just started the strip down of my 16H, here are some pictures, i started with the fuel tank, saddle, panniers etc, surprising how heavy this bike is !

it has had 3 or 4 coats of paint in its life, i carefully stripped the paint on the tank, but under the Nato green was a Brown colour, under that a brighter green, then Red Oxide, and metal, there were no signs of markings, the rest of the frame has reveiled directly under the NATO Green, a Deep Bronze green which is applied directly onto the metal.

As it was built in 1940, i guess this would be its correct colour ?

Never restored a bike before so it's all new to me. I want it get it back so i can blast the frame and start again.

this is about 3 hours work today.

I have also got both wheels off now.
