AFV 430 Terminology: Bulldog

It is clear that there is confusion over the correct terminology in respect of the upgraded (Mk III) AFV

430 vehicles. Some of you are under the impression that vehicles should only be called ‘Bulldog’ when

they have been fitted with a new power-train, additional armour and other UOR equipment on

operations, this is not correct. With immediate effect the following terminology is to be used:

If not yet fitted with a new drive-train, refer to as ‘AFV 432/4/6 or 9’.

If fitted with a new drive-train, refer to as ‘Bulldog 2/4/6 or 9’.

Bulldogs that have been fitted with additional armour and other UOR fits are to be referred to

as ‘Bulldog Up-armoured 2/4/6 or 9’.

That's as I understand it, but MOD itself has had a dose of indecision regarding "Mk 3" and "Bulldog". What they are currently saying is that an FV432 Mk 3 is now a Bulldog 2, an FV434 Mk 3 is now a Bulldog 4, etc, etc ...
