lozzaboy
Not a lot today but managed to make up some stays for the vehicle battery frames to keep the batteries secure for the first time in about 14+ years lol
lozzaboy
Last bits of the battery frame cleaned up with the use of a friends blasting cabinet today ready for welding in later this week.

lozzaboy
Cheers mate :-) First job was to swap a buggered cap on the isolator box with a good one, followed by checking which holes line up with those in the vehicle already, and marking and drilling a couple more into the carrier, missed out a couple though due to there position more or less right above the chassis but if the body ever needs to be lifted off I'll sort those out then lol. lozzaboy
Whilst waiting for the paint to dry on the battery carrier I set about securing the ATU cable along the passenger side, the P clips still remained in place for the drivers side under the back of the seat box so started there and worked forwards, was also lucky to be able to free up 2 of the screws/bolts that hold the P clips and cables in place where they run under the bonnet and on the wing top. lozzaboy
Finally the paint had dried and got the battery carrier fitted :-D (just need to get some spring clips to finish the frame off)
Rover8FFR
Matt that looks the part! The original P clips were the metal only ones, but makes sense to use the rubber edged ones to stop chaffing and corrosion. Depends how precise you want to be buddy? I have an observation / question in the rear tub area...... Do you have the two short lengths of aluminium angle fitted to the rear of the seat bulkhead that acted as an edge support for the radio table? I can't quite see them in the photo! They are quite fragile and often get damaged / removed after service when the rear area is loaded up as a utility vehicle. Also do you have the connections on the left side wheel arch / seat box that the radio battery charging cables were connected to on yours. I notice you have the isolators in the images for the live ends so they don't touch the body when the engine is running etc? Just me being nosey and curious You have done a great job on the battery carrier
lozzaboy
Cheers mate, yep I'v got the junction boxes on the left hand side still fitted, but not connected up just yep, need to refit the fuse box to the side of the ammeter panel (once an NOS one arrives from Germany in exchange for an fire extinguisher lol) Like you say the rubber just helps to stop any chaffing etc so its one tiny modification I'm allowing lol :-) I don't believe have any aluminium angle brackets on the rear of the bulkhead, can't see where about they'd go either either, only bits I thought I'v got to remake is the stiffener plates that go from the brackets that hold the rifle brackets and water jerry can holder, unless thats the bit you mean mate ? (a couple of pics of the rear from years ago to help show ya mate :-)) being nosey and curious is all good mate :-)
Rover8FFR
I'll take a picture for you of the two small ledge angles I mentioned Matt. Great images of the back of your Toastie ....... I'll keep being nosey then ...... Best Wayne
lozzaboy
Cheers mate :-) just in from fitting the drivers ATU cable, will get pics up soon.
lozzaboy
Drivers side ATU cable now in place thanks to Wayne's pics from his 40 amp FFR, the old P clips were still in place under the seat box on this side but one was secured underneath a strengthening plate so I opted to drill out a rivet and replace it with a thin bolt with the P clip on there. then fed it up the inner side of the footwell and up and along the bulkhead to the wing and also refitted the storage point too, I'm guessing its had a new splash guard at some point as there were no mounting holes for it. Rover8FFR
Matt This is the ledge angle brackets that I meant. I have had these in both my Toasties. As I suggested they get whacked... hence mine turning down a little. You can also see where the stowage clips are for the battery cables too etc. Cheers buddy
lozzaboy
No I have't got those ledges at all mate, didn't even know I was missing any either till you said to be honest, something else for me to make lol :-)
Rover8FFR
No I have't got those ledges at all mate, didn't even know I was missing any either till you said to be honest, something else for me to make lol :-) I'll get a better picture as I am sure they are a 'T' section folded in aluminium. I'll take some measurements too Matt Cheers

lozzaboy
Today at college I took in the current oil temp panel that had another gauge fitted above it to make a new with without the extra gauge. Didn't have any ally in the right thickness so set about using galvanised sheet instead.
lozzaboy
Also managed to track down the right D rings to go onto the rear cross member between the bumperetts too and after receiving the info on the brackets via Facebook set about making them too. lozzaboy
New panel painted along with the others and dash area too, and nos fuse box for the radio charging system fitted too. The paint I used a few years ago wasn't quite the right DBG so decide to re do it, the lower part of the bulkhead and seat box etc will get repainted when it comes out to have the original gearbox refitted after its rebuild. lozzaboy
Made a Key tag for the FFR today, kept it rough looking as though it had been knocked up my the SQN MT Flight quickly upon arrival. Or is that too much attention to detail lol.
lozzaboy
Checking over the brakes and oil levels the other week before the Cottenham Yesteryear run at the weekend I found a couple of rust patches, one above the rear passenger side spring and the other on the drivers front dumb iron. dump iron turned out alot worst then I though so will be replaced before too long but repaired it for the time being though.
