N.O.S.
Jack - I know there is a rule that a recipient of the HMVF PURPLE WHEEL NUT has to have been a member for at least 18 months, but don't you think you could make an exception for these two guys? scammell user
Hi Mike, welcome, good you have saved some of the most desirable vehicles of all time bar none..........how many survive over there? hi thanks for the welcome,i afraid to say in my area at least very classic trucks of any marque have survived mainly because the centres of industry have tended to be located in the east of the country.so home grown classics are thin on the ground. my two pioneers came over with me when i moved over here in 96.the retriever really was a stroke of luck it just happened to be in a scrapyard about 40 miles away.although its service life was in the curragh camp.its a pity about the lack of suitable materiel round here ,because i have plenty of room to store it.where as in london it was costing me a fortune. oh well such is life mike

Big ray
Oh Lord, another one! What is it about Scammel's? You will have plenty of like minded souls here. When I was conscripted into the REME in January 1956 I thought that the Scammell Pioneer was the most ugly thing that I had seen on wheels, BUT, once that you climb into that driving seat and drive off down the road........... well, you just fall in love with the thing, you realised what a great piece of Watford kit that it is........ indestructable, go anywhere, on the road or cross country, fantastic suspension system...... I always think of it as a road going agricultural tractor. The speed limit for heavy goods vehicles in the 1950s was 20 mph, so you could actually be fined for speeding........ imagine that!!!!!!!:kissoncheek:
