Meteor mark 4B Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Just finished the book by Rowland White, a brilliant read, not sure what I'm going to read now that will be as interesting. Quote
andym Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Try his next one, "Phoenix Squadron"? Very much in the same vein although perhaps not quite so engaging. Andy Quote
Adrian Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Vulcan 607 is a brilliant read, in fact I read it 3 times! If you want a follow-on in the same style try 'Sink the Belgrano' by Mike Rossiter. Cheers, A Quote

AlienFTM Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Read this. It will expand on the prologue: http://www.neam.co.uk/wingate.html Quote
Meteor mark 4B Posted July 26, 2010 Author Posted July 26, 2010 It appears a Vulcan will be at RNAS Culdrose Air Day on Wednesday. Fingers crossed. Quote
Meteor mark 4B Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 I hear today that the Vulcan is stuck somewhere with a brake problem........ Quote
Meteor mark 4B Posted July 29, 2010 Author Posted July 29, 2010 Vulcan turned up at Culdrose Air day at about 1600 yesterday, and proceeded to give a memorable display, much longer than I expected. Possibly not many more chances to see this wonderful plane actually flying, (H & S Police?), so if you get a chance, go and see it. Took a load of photos, here's just one... PS, it didn't actually drop anything! Quote
AlienFTM Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Local radio are currently reporting that it has been confirmed that it will be doing Bournemouth (Air Show I presume) in the very near future. I'd like to thinkthat going to Bournemouth they'll do what Spitfires do whenever they fly past over Southampton and use the M27 to navigate: I get a great view from the garden. Quote

Nothing on the website about it being there. Its not on the program for Shoreham that weekend either. Both shows are on the same weekend and they tend to share aircraft. Many have actually staged out of Shoreham in previous years. Mike Quote

Here you go: http://www.wave105.com/Article.asp?id=1894544&spid=25629 Thanks for that All I need to do is find out if it is appearing on any day in particular. Went in 2008 on the Saturday when it was supposed to be there, no show due to breakdown. Was a good day though. Mike Quote
Meteor mark 4B Posted August 5, 2010 Author Posted August 5, 2010 I note in our local paper, that the pilot on Culdrose Air Day was the same as when the operation to the Falklands took place in 1982, Martin Withers. Quote
Meteor mark 4B Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 Just finished Phoenix Squadron, as recommended, good read, interesting bit of history, not as good a Vulcan 607 though. Did the Vulcan appear at Bournemouth? Quote

Did the Vulcan appear at Bournemouth? Yes, I saw it on a local TV report. Don't ask me what day it was, though: I have been on my back with flu ("if it gets worse, it's pneumonia: tell reception I want to see you and don't take no for an answer"). Two weeks of my life are missing. Quote

AlienFTM Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Er maybe you were hallucinating?:nut: Bournmouth display cancelled due to bad weather ! Then it must have been at one of the shows on the days either side. Aren't there about four consecutive air show days along the south coast? Quote
mike65 Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 When I went to Bournemouth (2 years ago) it was a 3 or 4 day event. We did the Saturday and it was really good weather and the place was packed. Saw the news on the Sunday (rain) and there was like 4 people. So would not surprise me if on the days nothing flew. Mike Quote
Sean N Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Pretty much nothing flew at Bournemouth on Saturday and Sunday due to bad weather - the ceiling was around 300 ft. They got a few aircraft up late Sunday. It's a four day display though, and there was flying Thursday and Friday. I thought the Vulcan made it down but either didn't fly or only flew on Friday. Quote
