AlienFTM
approx 550 to 600 rounds a minute if i remember correctly Nah the Bren's rate of fire was wonderfully slow, if anything more like 55-60. More like one round per second than ten. If I had to guess, it would be closer to 120-180RPM. (Fond memories of Sunday morning lie-ins and listening to the TAVR on the rifle ranges at Whitburn Camp 1/4 mile away.) Unlike the ripped-calico sound of the MG34 / MG42. Mrs Hardyferret
My information as to the firing rate of Two of the Brens that we use for displays is as follows - Bren light machine-gun Mk i Calibre - .303-inch. Weight – 22.2 lbs (10.kg). Ammunition – 30 round boxes. Maximum rate of fire – 450 - 550 rpm. Bren light machine-gun Mk ii Calibre - .303-inch. Weight – 23.3 lbs (10.5kg). Ammunition – 30 round boxes. Maximum rate of fire – 450 - 550 rpm. Year of manufacture - 1942. And the Tripod - Bren tripod Low Level mount used for sustained fire over a fixed arc High mount used for anti-aircraft with 100 round drum magazine. There. I may be discribed on occasions as " a wooley headed floosey" by my other half, but I do know some stuff.
Jack
I am worried. How does a lady know that sort of information?
AlienFTM
I am astonished. I just Googled for +bren +"rate of fire" and found a wikipedia entry which quotes it as: Weight: 22.82 lb (10.35 kg)Length: 42.9 in (1,156 mm), Mk IV Barrel length: 25 in (635 mm) Crew: 1 Cartridge: .303 British, 7.62 mm NATO Caliber: .303 in (7.7 mm) Action: Gas-operated, rotating bolt Rate of fire: 500–520 round/min Muzzle velocity: 2,440 ft/s (743.7 m/s) Effective range: 600 yd (550 m) Feed system: 30 round detachable box magazine, 100 round detachable pan magazine I cannot believe that it fired at some 9 rounds per second. I stand corrected, but like my Mother used to say "A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still."
