Thanks, much appreciated! Amazing, why would they be different and in this order?

I believe the side to side differences are mostly due to how the brake lines are attached. I have no idea what the difference between the RFC and NON-RFC ones are, which could be an issue, as I had to order an RFC one for my Saracen, as there was no stock of the others. If anyone can shed any light there, I'd appreciate it.

Cheers,

Terry

Hi Terry,

I have no idea where you got these stock numbers from because neither the FV or NSN is shown in my Saracen parts book (Army code no 12259). But if they are for complete wheel stations then there is an error there, as they are grouped in mixes of left hand and right hand, Wrong! Left side has LH threads on wheels studs and Right side has RH threads. You had best check this out.

Very interesting indeed.

My information is from V614, Chapter 4, Paragraph 19. Issue 1, Aug 1977.

I have an FV 638171 on its way to me now, so I guess we'll see how that goes...

Cheers,

Terry

Ah, I see where you got it from now, Standardised Wheel Stations. Will have to see what it consists of, maybe the hubs are not in the assembly.

When we repaired Saracens in static workshops, always rebuilt the wheel stations, do not recall them supplying assemblies.

My parts list is dated early 70's.

This arrived today. It has left hand threads on the wheel nuts, but how it differs from any other wheel stations or between marks, I have no idea. Unless someone can fill me in, I'll just have to compare it with what I have.

I also got a heap of other spares and accessories, including a full set of the later (4 barrel) smoke launchers and a set of NOS vision blocks.

Cheers,

Terry

Terry,

It would be a LH front (if it has the lug for the steering on back and front) or LH centre. Have not looked in to the parts list to see what variations there are. What is wrong with the wheel station on your Saracen?

Nah, it let go spectacularly the last time I went for a drive. I noted that it was very hot when I got back and there was some noise when moving the vehicle. After a turn or two, the lines weren't aligned anymore either.

As far as I know, one that's been assembled with incorrect gear timing will chew itself to pieces in less than one rotation; my hub had been a bit suspect for almost 2 years.

Terry,

Just been through the parts list, that covers all Marks, and in the wheel station section there is no variations listed for particular Marks. The nearest transmission area that does have variations is bevel boxes and I cannot help thinking that whoever wrote that paragraph in the EMER had their wires crossed, it would not be the first time. Had come across this sort of error in EMERs before and had gone unnoticed for years before it was reported.

cheers Richard

One revolution or less ...... yes that is true.
