question Turret ring mounting plate seal

I am about to fit a turret ring on my Ferret. What should I use to seal the plate to hull?

When I cleaned it all up, there appeared to be a grey putty, not unlike dumdum. Is that the best thing to use, or should I use silicon sealant (although that would make it a real pain to remove in future).

There was also sealant daubed around the turret ring bearing mounts, should I use sealent there also?

That grey sealant was a kind of mastic that came in strips, we sealed rear end of Ferret hull with it as well. I have now forgotten the trade name, but you should use something similar, because when it rains, water will find its way through that flange.

Thanks Richard...yes, if I am going to have a turret it may as well give me some weather protection

Looks like there are a few mastic sealant strips out there.
