    I should probably update this one; replacing the switch worked a treat... for about 12 months, before it failed again. Hopefully the new one will last longer. The original one used screw terminals, but I was unable to find one locally with those, so I switched to spade terminals and crimped connectors onto the wires, which works, but are slightly longer than the original setup, so it's a bit harder to refit the rubber boot.     My Ferret was running extremely rich and the idle was very lumpy; it turns out that the nut had fallen off of the back of the valve in the economy device and was binding with the spring. Fixing that up has it running much better. Cheers, Terry

    The generator/water pump belts on my Ferret are in pretty shabby shape and I need to replace them. Do you just remove the coupling between the fan and the water pump and thread them through there? Has anyone tried using segmented belts instead? Cheers, Terry

    I would think so too, but he insisted that it was a 4 wheeled Saracen, and he should know, he was there!

    I've not driven my Ferret on the road yet. I'm still waiting on the historic rego logbook (Tuesday) and have to sort a few more things on it, like ignition timing and refitting the battery hold down and air filter. Cheers, Terry.

    Lovely, I just rebuilt the carbie on mine and it's running a lot better; now I just need to work out how to set the ignition timing... Cheers, Terry

    We've just started restoring a 1917 FWD, in Adelaide, South Australia. You've got a more complete starting point, and the correct engine. Lovely!

    I finally got my history cards from Bovington for the Mk 5 Saracen. It shows that it spent a lot of time in NI as an ambulance, but seems to be missing a lot of its early history and doesn't contain much information after it was transferred to Hong Kong. I don't really know how to read it though, so if anyone can provide some insight, that would be great. Cheers, Terry

    The only issue with treating the two positions as equal is that (in the unlikely event that you have a working one), the fuel gauge will read incorrectly. The manual states that the positions are marked, but I can't for the life of me find any markings on mine. Given that the sender is on the left side of the tank, my guess is that is the main tank and the tap pointing to the right side of the vehicle is the reserve. I've only had the vehicle for about a week though and it's not currently running, so I guess that it doesn't matter too much Cheers, Terry

    Basically, whatever fits in the battery boxes will do; unless you have a working radio setup installed, all the batteries need to do is crank over the engine and the B series are easy to start. If you want to spend more for higher capacity batteries, go for it My Saracen and Ferret both have no radios but have a pair of 1100 CCA batteries... Cheers, Terry

    I don't know about over there, but here, most workshops collect old oil, which they then send off for reprocessing. Ask your local mechanic if they want to take it?
