  1. Gotta say I'm not sure about this. Following the onward link some of these video clips look pretty nasty.
  2. It's nice to see a nice early-war camouflage scheme.
  3. I heard (not sure if it's correct) that the US army used yellow marking pre-war as well. The white markings came with the white allied invasion star when the US joined ww2.
  4. Wow - I like the wood-gas one. Does anyone know what are the tanks on the front are for? I'm trying to work out whether they're housings for lights or they're part of the mechanism.
  5. Perhaps it was a bit of familiarisation in how the vehicle moves and operates. I remember hearing that on the set of Das Boot, the director had the cast running up and down the boat for several days before filming started so that when they started they were completely used to being inside, swinging through hatches, etc. It made for a very good series/film (though the series was better )
  6. It stands for Price Over Augmented. It means you have to haggle
  7. Looking more likely "Mk 7 (FV 4007): 20-pdr armed, barrel fitted with fume extractor, designed by Leyland." from http://armouruk.net/centurion.htm
  8. The dates would fit in with the Korean war - maybe a modification to the Centurion? Maybe the Mark 3? According to Wikipedia, design work on the Mk7 concluded in 1953.
  9. Wasn't it the Sten gun that would go off if hit with a shock? I'm sure I heard a story about that. If so I'd be rather worried about coming off the bike. It must have be quite hair raising carrying one through difficult roads/terrain on two wheels.
  10. Very nice - the Reo has a good rugged look about it. Is it a whistler or an early one?
  11. From what I've seen, British and Commonwealth vehicles are all approximately the same in terms of cost. A lot depends on condition, "correctness", model, and spares availability. Ultimately you need to decide how much you'd be happy paying for a vehicle, and if it comes in under that then you're laughing. That'll probably go out of the window when you see the one you want, but hey, it's worth trying I put "correctness" in speech marks because it's difficult to tell with limited information saved from the war, and with so many different opinions. Do a bit of research yourself before buying, and talk to the owner about the history. Very little left these days is perfect though, so there will always be things that need some tweaking. Some tweaks are more expensive/difficult than others. Either way you will end up spending far more than they're worth on maintenance, running, and "I'll get one of those just in case" spares, so keep that in mind when setting your budget.
  12. There's not a lot of point in using the pads on mud/grass - it's just a waste of rubber. On tarmac without pads I think you are restricted to 5 mph, and obviously you need to make sure you don't damage the road surface. The folks I know don't do car crushing due to the damage it causes to the vehicles. It's not just hard on the tracks, anything caught in them can damage the rest of the vehicle. It must be a safety nightmare as well.
  13. Cool - the top looks more robust than I'd imagined. You have a very nice vehicle - thanks for sharing!
  14. Wow thanks - that is very different indeed. I like the Dennis next to it
  15. Just out of interest, what is the minimum number of torsion bars that a 432 can operate on? It must get to a point where the others can't keep it up.
  16. That will be a really nice (and very unusual) beasty with the insulated back as well - I'll look forward to seeing some pics Does the hard top help with the noise from the engine?
  17. I think it's a Supacat ATMP with hard cab again.
  18. Does anyone have a list of the vehicles in this volume?
  19. Don't rule anything out until you've seen it and sat in it Go and look at a selection and see what you fancy after you've been up close and personal with it.
  20. It looks very nice - http://www.fire-engine-photos.com/picture/number22233.asp (the Museum of Army Transport one) Has anyone got a picture of the MW/OY?
  21. Some strong language on this one, demonstrating the need to ensure the load platform is rigid and well secured.... Something went wrong...
