  1. I really must get to see them, on my to do list now, thanks CW
  2. I seem to remember a largish model Scammell Pioneer at the Tank Museum years ago, I think it was made of brass, very desirable too.
  3. Hi Bobe, 50-60s vehicles fit in here very well, welcome.
  4. Very impressive, but was it in steam, on compressed air, of static?
  5. Hi Graham, so you got here at last old boy, welcome to the forum, the heavies parking area is getting a bit crowded so please try not to bump any WLFs DTs Antars etc. when pulling in, field kitchens seem to be trendy at the moment so you're among friends here!
  6. Tim, I would try looking at the spring hanger bolts and give them a tighten up as the inner sleeve may be turning.

    What is it.

Didn't want you staying up on watch CW, you can sleep easy now

    What is it.

On top is a piston reversing wheel ,which suggests that the shot is only applied to each side of the skirt at 90 degrees to the pin, from the inside, so is the idea to expand the skirt to make up for wear? maybe only on the thrust side. Shot may not be grit it may be balls. (wait for puns etc.)
  9. That's great Nick, who could resist that, (certainly not Andy Fowler!) they must have been flooded with applicants!
  10. Hi JJ, and welcome to the forum.
  11. Tim, digging about in the memory banks, (it must have been 10 yrs ago) I think the radiator that I saw fitted at the time was a Daimler one but a little less plain somehow, and the owner said it was the wrong one for it. I remember thinking that is a lot of trouble to go to for such small details. If that one is the result it was certainly worth it! Thanks for posting those pix, the dedication and patience needed to restore such rare old vehicles always impresses me!
  12. Don't beat yourself up over this Nick, If I remember right amongst my meadows bits I had a couple of cracked ones and one welded one, I had similar troubles with this bl***y part! Check all mating surfaces for chips and gouges and file/scrape flat if needed, to prevent the lugs from being stressed, s*d to get at though.
  13. Hi Dan, always room for one more, plenty of green mist here as well.
  14. Yep, it was immaculate, I remember it was driven to the W&P show and arriving with all the rubbers missing from the Metalastic couplings, which were brass and all shiny with the wear! Seem to remember £15,000 was being asked for it, seems cheap now!
  15. Nice HST Richard, but did you get a pic of that Mack NO behind it by any chance? Another great truck!
  16. A pic of this one index no. 76/#135 ASJ 231 :coffee:only one side though.
  17. Hi Q, welcome to the forum, MV restoration pix are always welcome here too.
  18. All good stuff Chris, a source of gearbox rubbers will be welcomed I'm sure, what amount are you getting made? I think Jules bought some engine mountings locally off the shelf.
  19. Medium M2 High-Speed Tractor, or Cletrac, An unrestored but complete one was for sale recently, I was soooo tempted.
  20. Stress levels were high and I forgot about the A frame and steered into the pub car park instead of just following, smoke/squeal levels really rose then, but it got more interesting when the surface changed to gravel, the new BFGs had heat cracks around the outside shoulders after. Sorry best get back on topic.
  21. Me too, yes Perkins but much improved (Japs can do that) it once pushed Forceful up Johns cross hill on the A21 when he had a mag problem, luckily had the LR on an A frame, lots of tyre smoke!
  22. Agreed, the bogs dollocks had one in my 110 for in for around 18 yrs now, burns no oil instant starting, only thing is the starter motors, had 3, around £400 each + 1 starter ring! I do a lot of starting though! Pulls big tyres, RR transfer gears plus overdrive, 4speed box still holding up!
  23. Totally agree Mike, that's why I gave my Explorer kit away half built!
  24. Grahams' only had one Layrub coupling on it. The gearbox stripped a couple of input flanges (no splines at all left inside, complete lack of drive!) which is why I don't think slightly worn splines contribute much to the vibration as he drove his to a standstill!! It is now rebuilt with new flanges and the shafts machined to suit I believe. It must have had a bit of vibration because he drove mine before I rebuilt it and thought it was not too bad! He fitted the prop after the rebuild. He got the shaft made at a local propshaft shop, don't know which one though. You should be able to work out what you need from from the H/Spicer website. Richard, sounds like they should have got Oliver North in on the design team in the first place. The pioneer had all this in the 30s! Quite so Mike, it says on the H/Spicer page above that a gearbox and some types of clutch are considered to be a vibration damper, the question is weather a sprung clutch center plate acts as a damper. Maybe if anyone is thinking of doing the mod email them and ask? The H/Spicer site also confirms that Explorer rear propshaft angles are well within tollerances, methinks modern road speeds and poor lube are the main problem here. :nono:
