  1. This is the friendly forum, all is forgiven, make yourself known, life's too short for Gloomy feelings!
  2. Well if those can be put on the web so can this, can anyone read Flag semaphore? Click to play film
  3. It is shown in the film pulling up a rise and stopping close to the camera, it rolls back a bit then shudders a bit, tellingly, the shot is cut at this point  Later it is stationary and the driver is pulling on each reign in turn making the tractor neutral turn either way, the workings must have been a wonder to behold. Not much driver effort seems to have been needed to steer so our female members would enjoy it too. I have the video uploaded to photobucket but then realized that British Pathe don't like folk who post their stuff to the we.,
  4. Good idea Tim, I reckon it could be done. I have posted a photo of this this fascinating early gun tractor before somewhere, it would be challenging to research but not too big a project and unique. Search for HORSELESS ARTILLERY to download a free video A replica of this needn't take up much room in the workshop (which is going to be HUGE anyway) and would be good fun for members to drive around the clubhouse arena. :-D
  5. Thanks for the input chaps, I think it's a bit dodgy all round myself and full of pitfalls, so I have put TOC book at the top of my Christmas list in bold :cool2: I will be delivered under STGO (Santa's Transport Generally Overloaded) so it will be a month getting here :-(
  6. Just to clear up a few odd ends on this subject, an Explorer classed and taxed as an Historic Vehicle, can legally tow an unladen trailer. The insurance stipulates it is mustn't tow more trailers than allowed by law, a living van is deemed to be unladen if it only has personal effects in it. My question is, does it still count as a Heavy Locomotive and if a second trailer, or say an unladen Landrover was added and towed on an A frame, would this be legal and insured? Leaving aside the brakes issue for now. And finally, would this be legal on a full category B (car) driving licence, non commercial use of course? I only ask because some times my Landrover ends up in the wrong place after a trip out, it would be quicker and easier to pull it behind, even at 20 mph!
  7. I prefer the original too croc, for the next 'what's this' how about Ex. Civil Defence Austin Gipsy, modified to 4x4x4. ???
  8. Well the filler cap thingy looks very Land rover to me, jack holes look 110, bonnet looks RR, so early posher LR or summat?
  9. Nothing better than a picture so hope these help frame and springs 1.PDF frame and springs 2.PDF
  10. Nick, I don't know if the clutch shaft spigot bearing in the crank is a sealed one, but if it is it may be wise to prize out the seal and check that no water has got inside, and re-grease it. A some people like to put a thin smear of copper slip on the splines as well. You have incoming email.
  11. Glad to see it went OK and you've got OLDGUN on the job, I shouldn't think you will need it but I seem to think I have a new wear plate for the flywheel somewhere.
  12. Thanks so much for you kind words Swill. By the way, many HMVF members have supported the Hellingly Festival of Transport over the years because, due to the hard work put in to overcome many problems by Bob Bone and the rest of the committee, this event has contributed ten times more to various worthwhile charities. 13. Nice work Baz, just a couple of questions, is the engine solid mounted at the front or is the rubber bit not yet fitted? What method did you use to weld the cast manifold?
  14. Hi and welcome Ivor, that's as good an excuse as any I've heard to retire early  enjoy!
  15. AEC couldn't quite get to grips with the 'Chinese six' concept.
  16. Not a military trailer but a similar but earlier type of trailer being steered by sheer manual strength! http://greattube.net/video/89116/Scammell-1950s-heavy-haulage-h-e-rudd.html Obviously the working man couldn't be trusted to speak in his own words back then! He would have told it a bit different I think.
  17. Lovely looking bike Baz, nice work, a nice change from the usual but still desirable Harleys!
  18. Also a bit like a Gamma Goat
  19. It has at least managed to surmount a lump of wood, but anything much bigger would catch on the track guides hanging down at the front! I wonder if it isn't some type of mill apparatus that looks like it could be self propelled and the bloke is just sitting on it for a larf. There are no controls to be seen.
  20. All good stuff Norman, great detail pics and descriptions, just what we need, thanks.

    What is this 3

A Harley WLA someone has hidden from his wife in the coal bunker?
  22. I don't think clutch and brake are involved, clicking on the second link and then clicking on the pic will get a super size pic to study   to try and solve this riddle, I have to say I'm not sure of my conclusions either.
