  1. Thanks, Guys! I've seen pics of a ferret wheel hub opened up and it looks pretty scary to me :embarrassed: :cool2: in there. I imagine that if the bears & gears are in good shape all that would need to be replaced are any seals and the rubber tracta boots(?). Richard is the ferret EMER the user manual? I purchased reprints of several of the manuals but I'm not sure (but almost certain) that I do not have all of the manuals for the ferret. Regards, Matt
  2. Hello List! I'm in the process of doing a complete tear down & rebuild of 00EA85's outer hubs. Anything I should look out for while doing this? Other than the rubber boots & oil seals(?) is there anything else that I should replace now that the hubs are off the vehicle and on the bench? .............Any advise would be much appreciated :cool2:... Matt
  3. Thank you Joe but are you refering to the lug nuts or the (bead)rim nuts? I know the lug nuts are left & right but what about the ones around the edge of the rim? Regards, Matt ** My original post may have been confusing because of the example I used-Sorry.
  4. Hello Are the wheel rim locking nuts left and or right hand thread directional? Or are they all the same? For example; the wheel lugs on my WC51 were left & right handed threads and the lug nuts themselves were marked "left" or "right". Regards, Matt
  5. Sirc I guess what I'm looking for is how did the two vehicles compare in terms of on road performance, reliability* and ease of maintenance? LR parts over here are a little on the pricey side but no where near as bad as ferret parts. M151s while kind of rare when compared to other Military jeeps are pretty easy to get parts for. Biggest thing to watch out for when buying/looking at an M151 is the unitized body tub. They tend to rot out. I've found that they are also easy to maintain/repair and are pretty reliable. I understand that XMOD LRs are very common over in the UK but that is not the case with them over here. While there is a large LR following over here, it isn't in the HMV community which I find kind of strange. * I understand that reliability has a lot to do with how well something is maintained but with all things being equal, how reliable is the lwt? Regards, Matt
  6. Hello List! Here's the question: Does anyone on here have any experience with both the American M151 series 1/4 tons and the British Land Rover airportable light weights? How do they compare? I've owned & driven a few M151s ( one A1 & two A2s) and I'm currently restoring a LR Lwt (series III) but have no wheel (real) experience with landies. It would be nice to hear from MVers who've owned/operated both designs and read their opinions. Regards, Matt
  7. This vehicle was at the Aberdeen proving ground MV rally (Maryland,USA) back in the late 90's or early 2000's. I remember seeing it there but not paying too much attention to it as I had other interests at the time. The owner had it for sale on http://www.armyjeeps.net for the longest time before it sold (or did it?). The "historical" license plate (to the left of the spare) denotes that the vehicle is registered in Virginia.... Matt
  8. Hello Does the camoflage helmet cover in the first pic have small velcro tabs along it's bottem edge? I think it might be a cover for the 1st gen kevlar "Fritz" helmets used by the US..... which might explain why it seems to fit oddly over that M51 steel pot. * I also have the odd feeling that I'm incorrect and that the cover isn't actually US in origin. Matt
  9. If I'm not mistaken, isn't the land that Stuart is sitting on now part of a golf course? Matt
  10. That's interesting as I had heard it was just the opposite. I have no experience with either, so I'll bow to your expertise in the matter :cool2: . Matt
  11. Unless I missed something (old news?) I would have thought that the discovery of a rather well intact JU-87 would have garnered a greater responce from the board...... Matt
  12. Here you go fellows.... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/croatia/11135753/Remains-of-WWII-dive-bomber-found-off-the-coast-of-Croatia.html Appears to be in pretty good shape considering... Matt
  13. Hello List! Just wondering here, I know that the MB GD240 has a soft top that is removable but how about the door tops? Does the windshield frame fold like on other tactical vehicles? Matt
  14. Here's a couple of links for you of some fellows in Michigan (USA) who've built a kett. Maybe it's me, but theirs looks like it might be slightly larger then the original... https://sites.google.com/site/wwwtankcobiz//home/-kettenkrad-crawler-cargo-bikes * Keep up the good work! Can't wait to see the finished project! Matt * With the youtube video start it at the .30 mark so you don't have to listen to the owner's diatribe about music. The original video I watched didn't have that, but then again, it had music playing covering the sound of the machine running.....
  15. Well, if one guys getting shot, the other two are probably hiding :cool2: Matt
  16. Goran The only ones I ever saw with writing on them had large "P W " printed on their back panels and I think a "P" on one sleeve and the "W" on the other. They were issued to POWs intered inside the Continental USA. We had a bunch of them (jackets-not POWs) where I worked back in the 1980s. Couldn't give the things away... Matt
  17. Gazzaw I suspect that is done so that when a potential buyer does a search on that site using various key words similar to the seller's item, it'll pop up. I've seen that with various MVs on there an example would be an add for a generic G503 titled as: "WW2 jeep,MB,GPW, MASH Jeep". Someone looking for a jeep might plug one or multiple words like that into the ebay search engine an have several hits returned.... Matt
  18. I would have thought that those plated over Sextons would have seen use as defacto APCs like the Rams & Preists did during WWII.... Matt
  19. Richard I can't say that I've actually seen a fox in person (or if I did, I can't remember) but, looking at pics of them I'm going to guess that the driver's position is even smaller then the ferret's I'm hoping to have my wheel station/suspensions completly rebuilt & re installed soon so I can remount the fenders (wings) & exterior storage bins... Matt
  20. Well, got both rear bevel boxes shoved back into their respective holes with the left (rear) one almost bolted back onto the hull. I have two bolts (at a diagonal opposite to one another) that refuse to thread back in. I'll have another go with them tomorrow. Also finally got the front steering assembly reinstalled inside the hull. What a PITA that was :banghead:.. The biggest mistake I've made with this ferret project (IMHO) was that as soon as it arrived, I started the tear down for resto. What I should have done, was get it running & enjoy it for a while before starting the resto.... Regards, Matt
  21. Some times I feel as if my life has bevel boxes then....:nut: . Regards, Matt
  22. Thank you, Richard. I was aware of the left & right issue but was concerned if there might be a fore & aft difference as well. I'm currently reinstalling (all four) of mine... Regards, Matt
  23. Hello List! In keeping with the current spate of ferret threads (), is there a difference between the fore & aft bevel boxes on a Ferret scout car? I wouldn't think so but then again, what do I know? Regards, Matt
  24. Currently I have a Ferret Mk.1/2 & Land Rover S-3 air portable light weight. Both under resto... Matt Have owned: M37(X2),WC51,WC62,M59APC,M151A1,M151A2(X2),M38...Thought there was more to this list... :embarrassed: :cool2:.
