  1. That is something to definately look into. The disc brake conversion sets sold for the Dodge WCs/M37s used late 70s to mid 80s Chevy componants as they are very common over here.... Seeing how the air portable is a rather light vehicle, I'd imagine that the drums on it would be sufficient to stop the vehicle (provided everything is in good working order & you're not doing anything crazy). I converted my WC51 to discs for not only the increased stoping power, but more for ease of maintenance & reliability. The Dodge wheel hub oil seals have a habit of leaking & coating the inside of the brake drum with an oily film which can make things kind of fun when the foot brake is applied.... Matt
  2. Thanks for the replies, guys! Glad to read that there is at least someone out there building the conversion kits for series LRs. I'm affraid I'm a long way off from needing a conversion kit for my ltw as it is completely torn down for resto.... Regards, Matt
  3. This may seem like blasphomy but has anyone done that? Convert their light weight from drums to disc brakes? Maybe theres a conversion kit of some sort out there, available? I know Helitool used to make such kits for the old Dodge power wagon/WCs, M37s & M715s. Matt

    Reo M35 A2

What is the parts situation like for those trucks "over there"? I would assume pretty good due in part to the US Army's large presence in Europe for all those years? Matt

    Reo M35 A2

Never owned an M35 myself but here's a site that's a clearing house of info on them. Even has a pre-purchase check list in there somewhere..... www.steelsoldiers.com Good group of people with lots of experience. Matt
  6. If I send you my copy w/return postage will you autograph it ? :cool2: Matt
  7. Is he the fellow with the Perentie for sale over on MILWEB? In his add he claims he has some that are ready to go & some with minor problems need sorting for a reduced rate...... Matt
  8. Simply amazing! I noticed in the images of the new doors being sprayed that there is another landie frame laying around. Future project (after the motorcycle )? Have to wonder if this isn't going to be the nicest lightweight in all of the UK.... Matt
  9. You may enjoy this youtube video of the GAZ69A. I have some more around here somewhere......I'll have a look . Matt
  10. Alec It could mean any of the following :cool2: "I may be Stupid" "Is my brain seized(?)" "I make brussels sprouts" "Is monkey business safe(?)" "Is Michael Buble serious(?)" "I may break something" "I (a)m Bart Simpson" Regards, Matt
  11. Do that myself. I read of a ferret owner making "straps" that he attached to the pull levers on the hatches and closes them that way. Gives the strap a tug while safely keeping all hands/fingers away from slaming metal. Matt
  12. I was closing one of the rear visors on 00EA85 made the mistake and went "fingers down" on the handle. I "nipped" the tips of three of the four fingers I had on that handle. Nothing serious but it hurt like heck. Never made that mistake again and I'm thankful that I got off so lightly.... I've owned several M151s over the years and the first thing I would think after sliding behind the steering wheel is "If you're not careful, this thing can hurt/kill you". Have to think of a similar mantra for the ferret I guess. Anyway Nick, glad to hear that you're ok and not seriously hurt. Matt
  13. Wonder if it's not "tradition" or a homage to the earlier generations of paras? Matt
  14. Thanks for the replies. I went on UK ebay and yes there were quite a few on there for less. I've ordered from Caddock's before and have had good experiences with them. I plan on doing more business with them in the future. Their price for a tow pintle seemed rather steep to me but then again, this is my first Landrover project & I'm used to American MVs and the prices for their parts..... Matt
  15. Getting ready to order some parts from Caddock's for my SIII light weight restoration. Just wondering what is the going rate for a Military tow jaw? It seems to me that the price Carddock's is asking is a bit steep. http://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/other/military/parts/towing-equipment/nrc2051-military-tow-jaw.html#tabpage1 . Maybe I'm looking at the wrong one? What does the Hive Mind think? Regards, Matt
  16. Kind of ironic when you think that beer cans and M113 hulls are made out of the same stuff (although different thicknesses) :cool2: Matt
  17. the M548 is but not 100% sure about the rapier (sure looks like it, though). Interestingly, the M548s also come with a demil requirment (unless something's changed in the last couple of years). Matt
  18. As previously stated, the Americans won't release any of their AFVs to the civilian world. M113s (or any other AFV) doled out in aid packages to other countries come with a demil clause that requires the end user to cut 'em up when they're done with them. The Italians purchased a manufacturer's license to build M113s in Italy. I wonder if A: the Italians have a similar attitude towards surplusing out AFVs or B: Can the Italian built M113s be surplused out (or imported into the US)? There are a few M113s in private hands but certainly more FV432s have made the leap from Military to Civilian ownership. I wouldn't kick either off of the parking pad for leaking oil.....:cool2: Matt
  19. Looking good! BTW, what is the motorcycle parked next to the landie? Matt
  20. Neil & Mike Thank you for your insite into the comparison of the two models. My only landie experience has been with an almost identical pair of D110 3 door hard tops both with 200tdi conversions. I have a "thing" for the D110s but would consider the S3 109 as a posible substitute if I can't source a 110. Regards, Matt
  21. Good point, Andy! The speedo cables that I've removed were all attached to the transmission (and the speedometer at the opposite end :-D) . embarresed that I didn't pick up on that :red:... Matt
  22. Charlie I have no experience with FV432s (although I'd like to :cool2:) but with all the speedo cables I've fooled with, after you undid the locking nut, they usually just pulled out. At least that's been the case with all of the American MVs I've fooled with and the ferret Mk.1/2 (00EA85) as well. Curious to read if it's the same with the trojans as well. Good Luck! Regards, Matt
  23. Although mine were parts kits assembled into working rifles, the wooden furniture on one could be swapped with the pebblegrain plastic furniture from the other. If I recall, a slot head screw driver was needed to remove the pistol grip, butt plate & hand guard. If you don't have the recoil spring in yours then a large flat head screw driver should suffice instead of the buttstock removal tool to remove that part as well. I do miss my L1A1s..... Matt
