  1. Looks like a trusty Bedford MJ/MK to me. At least the clutch is easy to replace on them!
  2. I saw the armoured stuff whilst up there looking at the pioneer as well. That rapier looks in outstanding condition internally. Only saw the outside myself which is nowhere near as tidy but certainly not hard to restore. If I'd known how good it was internally I may have been more interested, but really wanted something WWII. Yes the others are 432's. I seem to recall a couple of Saracens in there as well in reasonable restorable condition.
  3. Keep the front doors shut throughout the job. That'll help keep the body stiffended and in the correct shape. Disconnect your battery before doing anything else, then there shouldn't be a need to open them.
  4. Certainly looks to have a little less clearance between wheel and wing than the one next to it. They're both fitted with Rolls Royce engines the owner said.
  5. Here's a few pictures of Diamond T's I saw today.
  6. Dual braking system sounds like another very good modification to me. Hows it done? Do you need a different pedal mechanism?
  7. Looks like the means of transport are already there parked up handily next to your new motor. I can definately see a low loader trailer and tractor unit in those pictures. Problem solved, no excuse for not buying it now
  8. Sounds much better if you say 128 miles to the gallon! (imperial)
  9. Amendment to my last post! I don't suppose anyone knows the whereabouts of a CORRECT one then? Or three? Seems like I'll have to join the back of the queue!
  10. If the new oil is anything like as thick as the old it'll no doubt make gear changes whilst cold a bit awkward. Probably uses up quite a few of the engines horse power as well. Compliments on an excellent restoration by the way. Good to see the tradition of British quality engineering is alive and well, just it's more in the home workshop these days.
  11. Don't suppose you know the whereabouts of another one then? Just got hold of TM9-736 for the M1A1 and can't believe the amount of tools and extra equipment listed for the truck. You could spend a few lifetimes trying to aquire all the correct kit.
  12. I would ask how good your shock absorbers are? Putting grease between the leaves will reduce the natural damping effect of leaf springs and make the shocks have to do more work. Greased springs would be the ideal for a smoother ride and less wear on the leaves themselves though.
  13. More photo's from Saddleworth this afternoon.
  14. Went along today. Slightly better weather than yesterday but still very wet.
  15. Surely the cost of a replacement (and incorrect) Antar axle must be close to the cost of a re-manufactured shaft? Unless you've got the axle lying around doing nothing. I thought you meant the rear diff had gone, at first, that would have made it expensive to repair!
  16. So it was a scam then? I know it sounded very cheap at 2 grand, and not surprisingly sold quickly, but the seller had very good feedback. I tried contacting the seller before it ended and got no repsonse. I'd have been taking along cash and wanting to drive the vehicle away though just to make sure of no shenanigans.
  17. As per the title:- More info here: http://saddleworthwartimeweekend.com/ Anyone going? It's on Friday, Saturday, Sunday in Saddleworth, Lancashire, scene of the famous Yanks film from the eighties.
  18. Select Military Vehicles of Rossendale, Lancs are advertising B81's. 01706 211368. May be easier to get it up and running with an original spec engine and look at changing it later. Hard to beat the sound of a B81 and a good part of what makes a Stolly.
  19. You'll enjoy the day there. Myself and family went to the last 40's weekend at Easter. It was snowing then but even so was a good visit. I expect there'll be a few more MV's about now it's summer.
  20. Is anyone not starting with a new project at the moment? Seems quite a few folk are starting with something new. My bet would have been on Madrat to finish his first but now he's got distracted with two projects at once! Norman
  21. Is the Mustang a car or a Horse? You still not tempted to part with your Pioneer now you've got another mission? Had a look at the other Pioneer at Montes the other week, and decided it was too much work to take on. Bought a different WWII wrecker instead. Norman
  22. Could be the thinners used was incompatible with the paint and has broken down the paint molecules hence the matt finish. Another problem I had once was an incompatible primer reacting once the top coat went on and leaving a matt rather than gloss finish. I now find it best to try and source all paint materials from the same supplier to ensure compatibility.
  23. Just looking around and found some more manuals here:- http://armytrucks.free.fr/tm.htm The main site is in French, but the manuals when downloaded are in English / American.
