  1. Looks nice...........but being Panzer grey it is obvious a pre 1943 model (be for the colors changed to ordnance tan)..........but the commander appears to be wearing a patt `44 grey panzer wrap over tunic, just an observation:-D:whistle::whistle::readbook:

  2.

As I am beetle orientated, I might have a look at a 181 Trekker, - or maybe build myself a Kubel replica. It's just about using the right parts and getting the proportions right, - even though it would be frowned on by purists.

A little downhearted, but not giving up.

Try a company called "Kooble car" (US based) as they sell the bodies as well as other part. The body should fit on a more recent chassis.

  3. From what i remember this was not a very large base but kept at least 6 rockets fully armed and ready to fire in minutes.

At the time 1971-72 i thought it was strange to have US troops in the British zone, but by then we probaly had no rockets.

  4. I seem to remember a thread once asking if Jeeps were built sand coloured or re-sprayed when they got to the desert.

I have just found a photo of a Ford WOT2 truck, and noticed that it was painted Kharki Brown and then re-sprayed sand colour. The rear view mirror has been damaged and the bracket removed, and the patch under the bracket shows a darker kharki colour to the Sand colour of the vehicle. The WOT2 must have been new and not previously used as it is the current model for the date of the photo. Check out IWM photos E22567 and E23186 for details.

Therefore from this detail, I can only guess that Jeeps were supplied Green and re-sprayed Sand when they got to North Africa.

    Hi woa2,

can a precise or approx date for this photo be ascertained ??

    cheers

  5. Hi all,

long shot here... in the early seventies i remember visiting an American rocket base near Osnabruck in Germany it could not have been more than 1-1 1/2 hrs by the old Bedford bus (utility). Hoping ex serving members of the forces may know of location the old base as i doubt if it exist now, probably a housing estate.

    cheers

  8. Hi all,

i keep meaning to take these pictures and have finally done so....

the militant (red one )has been here for at least a couple of years and along with the jeeps next to it has not moved.

The shots of the (Karrier) truck, now this vehicle to my knowledge has not left the field but has been moved around it.It was once complete with canvas but this has since been removed befor finally rotting away.

    Enjoy

  9. I hope not ..................anyone who would be crazy enough to drive a jeep on the M25 has no place here. Was he wearing shorts and a 'T' shirt too........ Spect the Jeep Joes will lynch me for this comment.......... nothing against Jeeps........it's the other loonies that dice with death on there......fine if they want to kill themselves, but you don't stand much chance against them in a Jeep. :shake:

  10. Well we must have spoken then at the Bovington show as i was chatting with some of the guys in 6th Fallschirmjager at the time when i came over.

The one at Beltring (ambulance) was with the 2nd Battle group the owner (i presume) said he had just retired and was going to restore it properly.
