Nazi cows are being farmed ih the UK

A breed of giant cattle created by the Nazis can now be seen in Britain for the first time after a farmer imported the huge creatures to graze conservation land.

The Heck Cattle were created by Adolf Hitler's geneticists because the dictator wanted to bring back to life the extinct aurochs, a legendary breed believed to be the size of a rhino.

The aurochs were hunted to extinction in the early 17th century and before the Second World War zoologist brothers Heinz and Lutz Heck attempt to bring them back by breeding from modern cattle.

They created the Heck breed but the animal was seen as a symbol of efforts to build a master Aryan race and most were destroyed after the war.

A small number survived and now 13 are living in Devon where farmer Derek Gow hopes to use them for grazing as well as in wildlife photography and film-making courses.

The 44-year-old, who runs Upcott Grange Farm near Lifton, said: "We will be breeding to create a small pedigree herd which will hopefully be used for nature conservation grazing.

"The Nazis wanted to recreate the auroch to evoke the power of the folklores and legends of the Germanic peoples.

"Aurochs were wild bulls, Julius Caesar recorded them as being bulls as big as elephants.

"Young men hunted these bulls as preparation for battle and leadership in war, but also to obtain these huge 6ft-wide horns that the bulls had as drinking vessels and war horns. They were huge trophies."

Mr Gow said the bulls were used as a propaganda motif by the Fascist regime and the Heck was a mix of breeds from the Scottish Highlands, Corsica and the French Camargue, as well as Spanish fighting bulls.

He said: "The auroch was extinct, but domestic descendants - Friesians, Simmentals and everything else - were still kicking around the countryside.

"The two brothers argued that if the one wild animal that spawned all of these had gone, through a process of back-breeding domestic cattle, you could pull the wild genes out and recreate the ancestor."

Mr Gow said his Heck cattle, which were quarantined, were much shorter than the aurochs, but they did retain the muscular build, deep brown complexion and shaggy, coffee-coloured fringe.

He said: "They look like the cave paintings of Lascaux and Altamira. "It makes you think of the light of a tallow lamp and these huge bulls on these cave paintings leaping out at you from darkened walls.

The yellow plate with the 5 on it is the bridge classification (weight) for this vehicle i shall see if ican find pictures if the british used them at all??

  4. Have you undone the clamp at the base of the distributor, or undone the locating nut

Yes but it was still impossible to remove. Now completed the task after nearly two days of work tapping block with small hammer, heating block portion with blowtorch and the use of a chain type oil filter removal tool and plenty of lubrication

    Thanks to all for suggestions

  5. You need a bigger hammer!

Being a thin cast? alloy not recomended :nono:ended up with a chain type oil filter remover, plenty of WD40 (other brands are available :-D) blow torch and small panel beating hammer (used on the block section only)

and several hours of tapping, flaming and tugging:sweat:

  6. I believe the gap between the tail and the rear leg is a good sign, but as some of these were supposedly cast copy`s from originals unless you can get provenance it would be hard to prove. Many years ago i knew a ex German paratrooper who still had his fallschirm jager 1 cuff title, and said i could have when he left the mortal world....when he showed it to me i knew it was a well known fake , but i did not have the heart to tell him (not that he would have believed me any way )

When he passed on his son brought it round to give to me, and during conversation revealed that he had sold the original one many years before but could not confess to his father what he had done.

The pieces you show, the cloth look to be 100% o.k. from what little i know and i hope the badge is also.

    Just my opinion

  7. Thanks for posting CW

very interesting, though i cant claim to know much about the subject matter at hand, may be its because i can still remember the local trolley buses,Royal Blue, and Excelsior coaches from the early sixties.

Once had a chap at work who could look at a bus and tell you,

    Type of bus,

    who built the coachwork,

which council /company it was first registered with (and subsequent owners),

and any modification to it during its life time in service .....

but ask him to sweep a path correctly no chance.

  10. Hi all,

an item of this design if found in the bunker was probably the property of Hermann Goring (successor to the `Red Baron`and CO of the flying circus in the 1WW). He would most likely impressed by a clock of this nature/rarity rather than an ex Corporal of the army in 1WW !

Or possibly another of the Flying types seeking refuge in bunker.

  11. Hhhmmmmm found in FAKEham eh? i am sure old Adolph would never entertain a nice clock with a very non German looking eagle and no swastika to boot :??? ........... He may have been a somewhat CUCKOO but it don`t look right to me.

Just my thoughts we shall have to wait and see

  12. is that the original stealth u boat?

on a serious note a "stealth" U-boat was recently discovered in the Solent, i believe the boat was encased in a rubber skin which prevented it from being detected by sonar ?

  13. You are so going to get it mister!

At least Kev and I didn't encroach on other peoples stands, drank our own tea and coffee all day and didn't ask anyone for sexual favours...........

    Makes a change then.......
