  1. I don’t think it was a British army rebuild, I believe it was part of the US rebuild program in Germany
  2. The insignia and regiments markings were under a number of layers of paint, it was by chance I spotted some colour and investigated further From what I’ve worked out so far this Jeep was in Europe and went through the rebuild program, the stencils on the dash, the number stamped in the tub and the blackout light tags all match Esslingen rebuilt Jeeps.
  3. Question : Did the Belgian army use the same regiment markings as the British??
  4. I think I have a match for the insignia, a Jeep forum member mentioned Belgian Piron lions head, so I started digging and found this Belgian 16th Armoured division
  5. Can anyone please help identify these unit markings and insignia that I uncovered today on my Jeep
  6. Evening everyone I am trying to find out more information about ww2 Jeeps that we’re part of a rebuild program post war in Europe This topic has is based on a current thread I started on a possible typo on my Jeep data plate. Quick recap, I recently purchased a gpw , chassis number 137### making it a July 1943 but the data plate is stamped 1952 I’ve come across a thread on the g503 forum talking about Esslingen rebuild Jeeps and my Jeep has a number of similarities but doesn’t have an Esslingen rebuild plate, I’ve attached the link below and matching pictures of my Jeep , hopefully some else has come across this and can shed some light on other European rebuild programs. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiZi4O9taX0AhUW7rsIHbsyAzgQFnoECAkQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fforums.g503.com%2Fviewtopic.php%3Ft%3D285634&usg=AOvVaw1RzeCSyahozCTlJ8YxWJcd First is the data plate with 1952 stamped , note the font is not standard Second is a body stamp on the drivers side above the rear wheel arch Third is the stencilling for the dash Forth is the Normal tag for the black out light and lastly OOCULTE tag under the black out switch Any information would be greatly appreciated.
  7. This looks interesting and may solve the mystery!! https://forums.g503.com/viewtopic.php?t=285634
  8. Thanks for the link Phil, that confirms the high engine number as suggested by a few other members, I’ll check for overpaint on the data plate edges. Hi Richard, I had thought the same but normal is spelt in English so still unsure. Unfortunately the rebuild plate wasn’t any help and it was most likely a post war replacement. Hi Chris, it’s certainly unusual but this Jeep was a US import, I can’t imagine many Jeeps were transported back to the US post war but I am happy to be proven wrong. I like your thinking, I’ve never seen this set up on a Jeep before but it would be nice to have a bit more evidence to back this up, hopefully someone else has actually seen this before. the instrument labels are unusual, I thought they might be recognised by someone. Any more info is always welcome. Seamus.
  9. I’ve taken some pictures of items that don’t look the norm to see if they shed any light on the 1952 stamp. Engine rebuild plate as requested by Richard Dashboard all looks fairly original I’ve never seen these painted on instrument info, they do look original and appear to be on a first coat of paint 🤔 Black out light switch labels 🤔 they look like a later fitting Stamped on the top edge of the rear tub, not that unusual but maybe an identifier !! The remains of possible unit markings on the rear arches?? Looking forward to reading your input. Seamus
  10. Hi , thank you so much for getting in contact, I was hoping that someone would remember this wot6, with the various stickers inside from old shows it had attended it must have been known on the circuit back in the 90s, it’s great to know more of its history and any old photos would be greatly appreciated. Regards Seamus
  11. The lack of details is unusual, the font doesn’t look right and why stamp 1952?? It’s possible it’s a nos plate but it’s been there a long time with the correct fixings……the mystery continues 🤔
  12. A Scammell is on my shopping list, nice looking truck.
  13. War reserve sounds very plausible but why isn’t there the plant manufacturer code or chassis number?
  14. Good theory Wally ,maybe it was a NOS Jeep in a crate that someone got for Christmas in 1952 😁 On a more serious note this can’t be the only Jeep with this date stamp….. Come on Jeep owners thinking caps on please 🤔
  15. The Jeep was a US import so not sure about a desert connection but it would be nice if there was one, I completely agree about the stamping, it just doesn’t look right but the plates look original and have good age to them but why stamp 1952?
  16. I did consider one of the tunnel type garages but to be honest I don’t have the space, so it’s covered with a good tarpaulin.
  17. Passenger door done 🍻 time for the pub.
  18. If I could find one near me without having to win the lottery I definitely would. No forthcoming info on the data plate yet.
  19. I can’t help it!! I am attracted to rusty green metal 😬 I am seeking help 🤥
  20. Evening everyone Now before you say “ not another Jeep data plate question “ bear with me….there could be a perfectly simple answer so I thought I’d ask the enthusiasts on this forum 😬 I recently purchased a 1943 gpw, chassis number 137### making it I believe an Aug 43 but that doesn’t tie up with the data plata which appears to be original 🤔 First picture from a distance, everything looks correct But now take a closer look!! Spot the question?? Also why is the MB engine number so high ? I thought MB chassis numbers only ran into the 45#### range
  21. Today was window fitting day 🎉😁 I assembled the windscreens last week and left the sealant to set before fitting. I used a black rubberised gutter sealant which stays flexible and is water proof, it was a bit messy but clean up wasn’t to bad, I used a silicone spatula to remove the excess and WD on a rag to remove the residue. Next up was fitting the screens, I spent a bit of time fitting and adjusting prior to painting so they should bolt straight in…..or so I thought 🤔 It would appear I over looked the fact that now frames are ridged with the glass fitted it has altered the square of the frame very slightly, this turned a 5 minute job of fitting into a 4 hour job of fitting and adjusting over and over again until finally they were in and working….. but they do look good even if I say so myself 😬 Starting to looking like a truck again Air conditioning on full.
  22. I was telling myself “ its the passenger door, how often is the window going to be used, hardly ever “ but.. your right Rob, it would have annoyed me knowing it wasn’t right.
