  1. You definitely want to remove the data plate just as a wall hanger, the only salvageable parts are probably the wheels and axle
  2. My wot6 has wot6 moulded on the spring hangers
  3. The wot8 basically a SWB wot6, I believe the running gear is the same, looking at the body I think it’s wot6, the military reg might be able to confirm this
  4. Sounds more like a tuning problem or air leak.
  5. Definitely a WOT8 and as you said no L on the census number.
  6. At last a break in the weather 🎉🍻 first chance I’ve had to get I decent picture of the wot6 with its wings on…..and it don’t look to bad 😬
  7. Not much progress recently, work has been ridiculously busy and the weather has been slightly temperamental 🤨 I decided to covert the headlamp bowls to accept halogen lights as a safety feature, fairly easy conversion and relatively inexpensive. Picked up a good pair of Butler headlamp bowls on eBay. New pair of halogen lamps First job was to carefully cut off the locating tabs. Next up was altering the brackets to allow space for the new lamps. Grind down the rivet head for clearance . Take the securing bracket out and weld on the outside. Check everything lines up and fit new lamps. Converted, prepped and primed.
  8. Hopefully most of the rust repairs will be straight forward sheet metal replacement and it will make a nice living space.
  9. Thanks for the link Martin, I see the manuals are now sold but I’ve been fortunate enough to collect all of those manuals over the last 18 months. Regards Seamus
  10. There’s always room for another project 🤔 😁
  11. Evening everyone Well….a mile stone has been reached, after 22 months I’ve finally refitted the first items removed when this project started in April 2020 😁🎉🍻 Freshly painted front wings and accessories. I finally fitted the wings last weekend but it was dark when I finished so I didn’t have the opportunity to take pictures. The wings and step have been weight tested!! They are now substantially stronger which to be honest wasn’t difficult as the passenger wing was held on with a bungee strap and cable tie 🤨 Unfortunately the weather has been slightly damp and blustery so I wasn’t able to uncover the truck and get a good picture, hopefully next weekend. I think next job will be checking the brakes and driveline, I feel like I need a little break from bodywork 😬
  12. The original buckets/bowls are not in good condition and there not a matching pair, both lens are butler but the reflectors are also in poor condition. I will most probably look for a matching pair of headlamp bowls and then look at the option of retrofitting modern reflectors.
  13. Bit by bit I’m chipping away at the list of jobs. Drivers wing now filled, sanded and primed. All the anti slip plates for the wings are cut and drilled ready for paint. A bit more progress with the lighting, I found a pair of Butler side lights on eBay to replace my rusty ones. I am going to replace the headlights as both bowls are rusted through in places, there a standard 5 3/4 inch Butler light so sourcing replacements shouldn’t be a problem or I am thinking of upgrading to new lights which are fitted to tractors and look almost identical but can be fitted with modern bulbs, any thoughts??
  14. Time to start cutting and welding!! funnily enough all the repairs are the same on both sides All the repairs in place, just need to join the dots and irritate the neighbours with endless grinding 🤨 The standard patch work quilt, “ you can’t polish a turd “ as they say but hopefully it’s had a bit of a buff…. Grinding complete and ready for fitting Just like the passenger side it put up a fight, the grinder came out and adjustments were made. Doesn't fit quite as well as the passenger side but it’s solid and as Highland laddie said “ it has the right balance of repair to patina “ 😂
  15. It’s been a busy couple of days, while work was a bit quite I’ve had a big push to get cracked on with the front wings, now that the passenger wing is in primer it was time to start work on the drivers. The drivers wing wasn’t quite as bad as the passenger but still bad enough, first job strip the paint and see what’s what. Although there has been multiple repairs and some have rotted a couple are still in good order and I didn’t see any point in cutting them off just to weld new one on. To be continued……..
  16. It’s got to have Patina but it’s a good job the paints not high gloss 😁
  17. A bit more progress, filled, sanded and primed. Not the straightest but at 78 it was never going to be, one down one to go.
  18. Thanks Pete, luckily the rolled edge wasn’t to bad, there was a couple of stress fractures that have been plated behind and welded. Seamus
