  1. I'm sure those tyres have come off a big Russian KRAZ...... At some stage you are just going to have to bite the bullet and make a 1/10 scale tea pot to dangle off the front tow hook :cool2: Excellent craftsmanship there Edude. Look forward to seeing regular updates : No sign of the rear diff oil cooler yet - an essential item!
  2. Thanks for that, Mark! I was really hacked off to find out that you are still supposed to carry around the paper counterpart that goes with the credit card sized photo one. What is the point of that? Might as well have stuck with the paper one. Whilst they can now do a roadside check, some will still insist that you present your paper licence at the nearest police station. We really are quite pathetic in this country at making any sort of sensible progress :argh:
  3. Oh come on guys, at least try to keep it in the "historic military" scheme of things.....
  4. I renewed my breakdown cover in June, despite moving the vehicle policies away some weeks prior to this. I did point this out when I renewed, they did not have any problem. Of course they may restrict this to existing breakdown policies. Is it worth writing or emailing them for a definitive response, rather than taking pot luck with whoever you get on the phone?
  5. I think you'll find they are EAR MUFFS, Mike - for people with very big ears.........
  6. Howard, someone I think you know not far away has one! (Mike Warman).
  7. They are SAE (the American automotive standard) which uses a UNF thread profile. I found a manufacturer of these nuts/unions in Northants who will supply mail order in small quantities, but still can't find the invoice. I'll keep looking, but as R3 says, RW can supply your needs.
  8. The job is not done till you've replaced that broken stud, Howard
  9. I've just been cleaning my computer screen and now realised the marks are on the picture :argh:
  10. Although no doubt the liquid oxygen and coolant tanks would have been empty, Alien.:cool2: Fascinating stuff on Wiki, good link :
  11. So, has this 6x6 been shortened up a little or has someone cobbled an alien bogie onto a Matador? Looks a well-balanced truck whichever.
  12. Don't know about the others, but I for one would be interested in the story behind these photos please, 6x6! Also your other two b & w pics. Thanks, Tony
  13. I like custard, and lots of it. Reckon one of those propulsion units with a big mixing bowl would be just the job.
  14. Early attempt at Land Speed Record, and the bloke standing behind the trailer has just discovered that the cause of failure to ignite on attempt # 1 is that the remote firing cable has been run over by the trailer.
  15. Taking a short cut across the back of the latrines wasn't a great idea.....
  16. Dynamometer truck? NIAE Silsoe had a beautiful Albion Workshop truck as their first one, very slight rust in cab. Wonder where it went?
  17. Sometimes called a SULKY for obvious reasons :-(
  18. Use the culprits as track grousers :argh:
  19. If you look on Witham's direct sales website under trailers, you'll see the modern equivalent of the Queen Mary - nothing much has changed!!!
  20. If I'm not mistaken, PUC474 made it into preservation.
  21. As an aside - I nearly caused a major incident on the M25.... I'd been down as a passenger with a slidebed Bedford 16T to collect my Chev M6 bomb service truck from Maidstone. It had a replica 500lb bomb on the back which we thought was secure. Some way around the M25 I glanced behind to see it dangling off the side of the M6 and I persuaded the driver to pull onto the hard shoulder so we could secure it properly. Good job we noticed - even if it did not cause a prang, the consequences of a "bomb" sitting in the carriageway, and someone reporting it to the police, well......:shake:
  22. In a quiet corner of a forgotten field.... Had a duty at the local airfield 11.00am, so spent a quiet minute in the morning sun.
  23. Yep, that's the most recent one I've seen! Keeping a certain Cletrac company.... I wonder if anything will be done to it - I could do with the US bogie in front :cool2:
  24. Wonderful breakdown, looks like it's been through a Hot Rod shop :cool2:
