  1. What a brilliant idea! (for those of us of a certain age range)
  2. Here's Connie! Even the tape holding the photo on was the period stuff. And one of the wreath-laying by a veteran, also one of Lindy Lou - I was keeping an eye on the Little Patches crew to make sure one of those pipes wasn't tapped out on her hood - gotta watch them flyboys! Tony
  3. Bodge can hardly criticise your bottle opener - he painted a CHESS board all over his truck (but that's ground crew for you....)
  4. That was at the 96th BG Open Day at Snetterton in September, Lloyd. My GMC Lindy Lou was parked outside the museum - the second year I've let Alfie down by not taking the AUTOCAR (sorry Jack that just slipped out...) I didn't post a photo of all of CONNIE as I suspected the Coke opener thing may attract some critical comments :-D and I hadn't got around to meeting you - where did the time go? I'm sure everyone would appreciate a photo of her in all her glory (what you can see of her under all that stuff anyway :cool2:) To answer my own question, yes I think this could well be the ultimate accessory - what other combination of vehicle and accessory is so ..... iconic, so ....... American? Will Jack send a prize your way? :coffee:
  5. Well there seems to have been a need for these reminders......
  6. http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?t=4752 also 1/2 way through http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?t=10876 Try this book then - gives you an idea what a Chaplain went through after D-Day. Fiction of course but probably well researched.
  7. Welcome! Your'e in the accommodation block over the workshops. Find a bunk away from the stove as the WW1 boys are forever heating up new bearings in a pan of smoking oil late at night - stinks the place out. I see from your photo that you're already well prepared for the washrooms with a length of toilet roll around your neck...... But seriously, do I take it you're hoping to become an Army chaplain or some sort? What a job that would be. Someone here has a WW2 chaplain's jeep I believe.
  8. Oh, right then - all the Landrovers in the carpark need a coat of white emulsion paint, and when you've done that can you fill the workshop swarfega dispensers with No.2 grease. One tip, if no, when you get called in to Jack's office, hide a computer mouse mat down the back of your shorts - he hasn't caught on yet......
  9. Re: Could you help me with my coursework - If it is of any interest, Antarmike is running some useful Remedial Maths classes on Wednesday nights at the Clubhouse - but hurry, there are very few places left :coffee:
  10. Do you think one would look OK on the F-1A tanker - next to the hose reels maybe? :cool2:
  11. I thought he was well and truly into the 40's Oh hang on, that's the era, not his age  Enjoy!
  12. Protruck - could you tell us briefly what happened to Unipower following the closure, and if any remnants of the company/designs still exist please? :coffee:
  13. Well knock me down with a feather duster - wouldn't have even thought of googling for that! Just goes to show what you can find out there
  14. I'm certain it will be a crane maker's special - big diameter but small pitch thread - and you should really be looking to get one plus a bearing from the manufacturer. Are they still in business? I can't remember what crane it was now and your photos have been lost......
  15. Lettering up the old girl - You are in the middle of USAAF country - at the possible risk of being as unoriginal as 101st, you could always pick a local bomber or fighter base and go that route? You'd be in good company
  16. I've got an original cinema (Lowestoft) poster for the first Muppet Movie
  17. Life's getting too short not to!!
  18. Sorry, but I got bored before you  Though it is fun to see those who like to wind others up, ending up winding themselves up. And just for a bit of light relief, here's a sign seen today in the window of an Explorer:
  19. You can go in front then  Roy can bring up the rear as he is a good mechanic.
  20. The No-Spin centre diff is not a bad bit of kit - it works by locking up when one side tries to go faster (as in lost traction on one side). But when one side wants to go slower (as in making a left turn where the inside set of wheels is being slowed down) the diff allows it to do so. Does the Stalwart have one of these? If so the only real issue is the fact that all 3 wheels on each side are locked up. Older trucks with no inter-axle diff had two on each side locked together, so from an engineering design aspect it wasn't that different!
  21. Was this the reason they considered a 6x6 Jeep? :-D Yes, the Jeep with the bottle opener was the most well and truly loaded I've seen so far - but I've got to say it looked 'the biz'. I liked it. A lot. A good way to display all the kit you collect - no point in leaving it at home. I wonder what will be hanging off my Autocar (other than Jack).
  22. Field trials of the first pair of tanks to be fitted with Professor Beckett's patented INVISIBILITY CLOAKING DEVICE revealed a fundamental design flaw.
