  1. Andy, According to the Humber parts list, the part numbers of the cams are different, but they use the same gear wheel. The difference may only be that one has UNF threaded holes and the other, BSF. Richard
  2. Try Laurence Corner, in Hampstead Rd. near to Euston Square Tube Station. I have not been in there for years, but it was once an aladins cave of obsure military surplus. Check out their website, pith helmets mentioned, http://www.laurencecorner.co.uk Richard
  3. Tim, This problem occured some years ago, and there was an article about the legal implications in the MVT Windscreen, it may have been as far back as when it was in the smaller format. Perhaps Robert (WOA2) can remember, without me having to delve though back issues. Seem to recollect someone with a Dodge ambulance had problems with the Red Cross organisation at the time. It would be shame to have to resort to suptle alteration on the symbol, just to please them. Richard
  4. OK one more stab at this, I may be wrong, but I think it could be that the vehicle bears the wrong reg. number plate, ie, photo altered. These vehicles, from memory of those that were stationed at the Workshop, would have all borne Army numbers and either in the last of the K series or the new type number, eg. AB 01 CD. Probably way off track :? Richard
  5. and also, it is a 45 series DAF, the photo has been altered to 54 :-) Richard
  6. Clive, LELYAND looks like someone has been "at" this photo ;-) , also, the blue / white lamp on the top of the nearside mirror arm is rather odd.
  7. Sorry Clive, I'm after the hat trick! The letters S are not reversed like the other letterso nthe font of the truck Richard
  8. Thanks, Clive I cannot recollect the Mark number, but it looks like the type I once worked on. as to where it is, well I am looking at the surrounding items for a clue. The track on the left looks familier, but cannot put a fingure on it as yet.
  9. Hmmm......after studying the vehicles in the background, I now think them to be Renault Goelette trucks, thus making it the possibility of being some French type of armoured vehicle for internal security, etc.
  10. The trucks in the background look like FN........so could it be something to do with the Belgian forces..or police ?
  11. The German tracked vehicle, looking like a SP gun, that comes over the Bridge in the film, was built on a Hotchkiss tracked load carrier, and is owned by a guy quite near to where I work.
  12. Clive, It looks to be quite lightly armoured or perhaps an unarmoured prototype, the engine covers do not look very thick and evidence of the panels being bolted on. The multistorey buildings in left background, flats or barrack quarters (?), have the 1960's look so will say the picture dates from that era. I am going for some home grown vehicle from RUC. Would this be a photo from the new book on RUC vehicles, due out this month?? Richard
  13. oh, just looked back and you may have left a clue, you told Robert it was not a Bedford, but hinted it was a British 15cwt. How about Morris Commercial, model could be CS8, C4 or C8
  14. Chris, Outer tracta seal for Ferret is; 9ASC/2520-99-815-6505 Richard
  15. Tony, For Ferret, Saracen, etc. the tracta seals were specifically designed and made for this vehicle, no equivalants would be available. Subsequent orders from the manufacturer would be via Daimler, Alvis or direct from MoD themselves. Even if you did find the manufacturer, I doubt they could or would help, because it was a item supplied to a customers spec. and not a common item. I have come across this regarding seals on CVR(T) gearboxes, when contacting the seal maker. I know you run a Bedford M series, did you know that the tracta seal on those, is the same as the QL and RL? How is that for standard parts! I think they were available from Payen the gasket and seal makers at one time. Richard
  16. Now I may have got the number wrong, but is it the rear vision ports on a Shorts SB301 patrol car based on the Land Rover?
  17. In respect of Tracta seals for the Ferret, these are not a common standard seal as the lip bears on a spherical surface. They were a specific design for that application. But when it comes to other seals on the Ferret, like, hub seal, challis internal seal, bevel box input, etc., these are to common Imperial sizes. So you really have to go to someone like Banisters, who maintain good stocks. I use a good number of seals over a year and mostly for military vehicles and equipment over 60 years old, my local bearing supplier has a very good knowledge and just by quoting any visible number on the seal over the phone, failing that, measurements of shaft size, OD and width, can come up with a suitable item. On some sizes you have options of steel casing leather lip, or rubber coated casing and single lip, double lip with dirt seal, etc. Hope this helps, Chris. Richard
  18. That is a QLB, the LAA Bofors gun tractor, bodywork is correct with crew cab at front. there is a breakdown crane in the back (Harvey Frost or similar). There is a debate over this, as REME apparatly converted some QLB tractors for light recovery. I am sure this is the one that was owned by the late Eric Bell of IMPS magazine fame. It may have been a post-service alteration by a garage of course. These tractors also had a mid mounted chassis winch. Richard
  19. Or jack one front wheel clear of the ground, as it may be wound up.
  20. Rick, The special tool used to push the dynamo shaft out of the sprocket, is lso used to secure the sprocket firmly in position whilst the dynamo is not fitted. If this was not done it is possible for the chain to have slipped. Try checking the valve timing, general rule of thumb, the inlet and exhaust valve on the rock at TDC. You might be able to get a thin rod or stiff wire through the spark plug hole to feel the positon of piston.
  21. Ah well, I was just waiting to see the whole picture............if you see what I mean :-D Richard
  22. Rick, When you removed the dynamo, the drive sprocket is driven by the timing chain. Is it possible that the timing has slipped, ie., chain jumped the sprockets on the crank or cam? Richard
