  1. The bodies are steel frame with sheet metal and canvas panels, with board on the inside. The body is riveted and welded together. I think the main problem is that the yard filled to the gunnels with ironwork, doors, panneling in fact and reclaimed parts of houses. The distance from the street would be too much, the hire of a suitable crane would be more than the K2 was worth, plus haulage back home. Perhaps Artists Rifles could organise another Eurotour, via the Eurostar to Paris, for a recovery assessment :-D
  2. Very doubtful, it lays back of the street some way, another photo I have shows distance is too great.
  3. Sadly, it would not be easy as I am aware there is little space around it. I would hate to have to pull a vehicle like this down quickly when it is in such a preserved condition.
  4. Tony, I am only going on what my friend said after speaking to the owner, there is another photo looking back towards the street and there must be tons of iron railings there :shake:. Not an ideal vehicle to dismantle either. Anyone interested, would have to do a site visit to see how feasable it is.
  5. The VOSA ( or DVLA ) man will come out to check the vehicle. They usually work areas so that they deal with several in same locality in a day. All they do is check to chassis and engine numbers visually, to see they match the details submitted, this costs nothing to you. As for Vehicle Verification of age, this is only recognised by DVLA if done by bodies registered to them, such as owners clubs, vehicle groups, etc. MVT members can have it done under their groups scheme, and using their database, can verify the year of build, this should not cost £40. I have had them done by MVT.
  6. Hi Mark, Just realised who you are. An ex-pat from East Kent if I am not mistaken  regards, Richard
  7. more pics......... Last photo shows the access :-(
  8. Hopefully some better photos here, although access was restricted as you will see.
  9. I have had word of an Austin K2 ambulance, found in a dry shed, its home since sometime in the 1950's apparantly. Sadly it could son be cut up, unless someone steps in to save it.............but there is a catch, well several. The premises where it is, has been built up and filled with stock over the years and the vehicle would have to be dismantled to remove it. No mean task. The other thing is that it is located in the Paris area. My French contact is willing to help, he is a MV collector with a great interest in British vehicles and anyone interested should PM me and I will pass his email address on to them. A few pictures to follow.........
  10. It is a Crossley 4x4, but looks like the truck version, not a tractor, also Fordson balloon winch trucks to the left.
  11. About 3 inches of the damned stuff down here, not much more than the last time. Won't stop me going to work, at least the schools will be shut ( inevitable ! ), so roads will be quieter :-D
  12. Simon, If as I suspect, the MCC Light Warning truck is a C4 MkII, then the body may not be interchangeable with a WOT2, because the wheel arch on a MkII is to the rear of the centre of body (WOT2 has wheel in centre of body, I seem to think) due to the longer wheelbase. Also , I once had a C4 handbook and do think it listed Light Warning in the body types.
  13. Hi Simon, Your C4 MkII..I assume that is a mistake where you say it is 2244 ?. If it is S.2245, then it is census numbers Z5400641 to 5403640. Cannot see any more contracts that are specifically "W/T House MkIII", some just listed as W/T House. There is a Light Warning listed, assume it is a C4 MkII as the census numbers are later that above, Z5832027 to 5832356, contract no. S.6778
  14. :n00b: no, the owners........you are not paying attention
  15. Update In 2005 it was towed to Strood on the Medway and was supposed to be on going to Ireland, not sure if it did or not.
  16. Was that the one that was once at Folkestone? Think the owners went broke, not sure where it went to.
  17. and for the man who has everything.......a Jeep lawn mower www.Jeepvillage.com/news/index.html click on "jeep militaire" then it is the 3rd item down. :-D
  18. Jan has asked me to point out that the www.corowaswim-in.org website, has just been updated and the second KVE newsletter is now on there. It had not been uploaded at the time of the original post.
  19. Jules, I am sure the Type 105, was built on a Commer Q2, I have seen photos of these in NW Europe as part of 2TAF. Attached is a sketch of one done by a crew member in wartime. This is a copy which has been handed down to me, originator unknown.
  20. Hi Simon, Well I cannot say I know.............but, it is an AC filter of a general type fitted to many vehicles, and I have seen NOS ones in black, not specifcally MW ones, I might add. Personally I would paint it same colour as rest of vehicle.
  21. FUF 47 was Jeff Theobald's Pioneer. He used to tow a 7 1/2t recovery trailer with universal carrier on it...............a long time ago though.
  22. Commer Beetle by looks of it. Recollect hearing one existed, in W&T many years ago.
  23. Rick, I buy my oil direct from Morris. Their distribution depot for this area used to be next unit to mine and the van driver would go out delivering. You should be able to do the same in your area, ask for their local Rep. Note that if you are buying oil in 5 litre cans, you have to buy a box of four, best to buy a 25 litre drum. Their straight 140 is known as AG140.
