  1. I don't think it is/was a MW as it looks to have a ventilator on the scuttle, which would make it OX or OY (MW were drafty enough, so did not need them).
  2. Chris, While you had it jacked up, you should have got someone to apply the brakes and released again, while you checked each wheel in turn to make sure they were operating and releasing. That is the only way of knowing.
  3. Paul, I think you will find the heatshield is to protect the distributor.
  4. Well done Richard  No smoke trails, looking good :-)
  5. Hi Howard, It is funny how having worked on a lot of Saracens when they were in service, I had not thought about the ducting. It was only when I got working on them again when in private ownership that awareness of these details was raised when owners decided to remove the cowling on the front because it spoilt the good looks, this resulted in overheating vapour locks, etc. Lots of tales to tell about this. regards, Richard
  6. None of that mentioned in TM10-1531 :???
  7. :undecided: :undecided: :undecided:   Tony, The Dodge system is pretty basic and I would not say "it was designed for power bleeding", especially as it is not mentioned in the TM that I have. As for releasing a rear bleeder on completion to "create the air gap in the master cylinder", then you have me there. After a full working life on vehicle mechanics for 43 years, this is a new one on me ! The gap between the push rod and piston is done by adjustment......if that is what you meant.
  8. They have another auction at the end of Sept. Vehicle parts, engines, militaria. On same auctioneers website.
  9. Well although it has beehive engine covers and front shroud, as associated with RFC, the hull has not been modified, the original cooling air trunkings, around front of drivers position are still there. Normally the hull is reworked at this point, to eliminate the ports.
  10. Alien, you are close, it is to do with RFC........but a little more detail than that. Paul, I did not notice that, but on a close look at both shots, it looks like the top flap is removed.
  11. OK Paul, I misunderstood about the air blowing through the rad. They do get hot as you can imagine, especially on the left side with exhaust manifold close by. Without a working temp guage, it is difficult to tell if it is too hot.
  12. Hi Paul, You mention that hot air is being blown through the radiator...............so...is this Reverse Flow Cooling on your Saracen? If it is, then air from engine compartment is being drawn through the "beehives" on the top of the engine deck and blown out the front. Now, if it is like this, then have you got the sheetmetal and rubber shroud on the front of the vehicle? If not, then this is why it is getting hot. Forward motion is keeping the hot air in the engine compartment with out a shroud on. Have come across this several times. Forgive me if I have prejudged your vehicle and got it wrong, but this sound like the problem. Richard
  13. Clive, You were too young then? If thats the case I should have retired by now :-D. Actually, I do not recollect the mod being done within Wksps on Saracens. Perhaps it was embodied on Ferrets when a dynamo was faulty and needed replacing...........or at Unit's request, so that outstanding Mods were up to date.
  14. Wally sold up, but someone in Yorkshire bought a lot of the stock and used the Nordian name. I beleive he then sold the stock on to a man in Liverpool area, who I briefly dealt with. Now it appears that the stock has moved on again.
  15. 82BA68, which is 2nd and 3rd photos down. Now this is an odd one, anyone notice what is wrong with it?
  16. Hi Vince, On the armour you should use Nickel Chrome rods.
  17. Clive, Not all of these mods were done on base overhaul. We did a number at Comd Wksps, and I thought the reason for fitting was when Clansman was introduced.
  18. That is because the original generator was a dynamo
  19. Just had a thought, perhaps you have a modified Ferret, with 90amp alternator (as the old 24v petrol Land Rovers), seem to recollect they had three, but quite narrow in comparison to the normal belts on B range units.. Measure the width of a belt, or better still take a photo of the engine.
  20. Tony, I hesitate to answer your question on this thread as it is off-topic. I thought you being a WC expert, the technical info would be to hand. Drum diam. 14 1/8" Lining thickness 1/4"
  21. Check your fan belts are not slipping. I had to go out to one last year, he had suffered overheating on a road run. Belts sitting low in pulley vees, which means they were not gripping on the flanks.
  22. 1st gear ratio in the gearbox was 8.5:1 on Saracen up to 30BA70, then from 30BA71 it was 10.27:1 . In 1955 edition of EMER it was stated that on overhaul of early gearboxes, ratio for 1st would be changed to 10.27:1 Are you thinking of tyre sizes? 11.00-20 originally, then when uparmoured they were changed to 12.00-20 same as Saladin
