    W.h.y?

HMMMM......................... I don't believe that for one minute ........You laydees kid yourselves that 'we all know' when in fact Us blokes really are not that interested,as long there is enough cash for the real essentials in life ( beer, pies/pasties. crisps, beer, copious amounts of tea whilst spannering ........):-D
  2. I'm liking that ! Very nice.:-D
  3. Pulling a carriage if the horse was missing .....? Military Ring A Roses ?? lol
  4. Pall bearer type duties? Linking personnel together to pull summat ..... field guns etc ??
  5. hmmmm 1883 is when civilian (female) nurses were allowed to minister to the injured servicemen in hospital, taking over some duties from naval medical personnel. Is it medical at all ?
  6. Is the '129 yrs ago' significant ? By my (poor) maths that makes it 1883?

  11. Well the Royal Marines are part of the Navy, so any Royal Marine machinery would technically be 'Navy' rather than 'Army'. As to the newspaper, no idea ,,,,,,,,,,

In the above tin plate toys was a large toy Routemaster bus. wheels and axles missing, bit dented and a small amount of patchy rust ....... It went on the bay of E for £82.00 ............ gobsmacked .......

    My job

Went to collect a skip this morning, house clearance type situation, noticed an oven on the top, alarm bells start ringing, as fridges are often found with them, and we do not take fridges or freezers. So had a quick looksee in the skip just in case, luckily none found. Pulled out an tin plate toy trailer, found some old board games. Made a note not to let the yard lads get in first. Back at yard we had a proper rummage, stacks of old tin plate style toys, loads and loads of old school Meccano. Me and other driver filled boot of his estate car with them. Now on Ebay ............ The only bad thing is of course that the owner has obviously passed away, and family has cleared the house and thrown the lot. Sometimes its hard seeing peoples possessions and memories getting shoved into the rubbish heap.

I got a mini motorbike out of a skip a couple of weeks ago, given to friends of ours 'spares or repair' for a crate of beer.

    Winch

The only trailer winches i've come across are for pulling cables, either thru conduit or pulling them up over poles/pylons. Also used for raising/lowering floodlights, masts etc.
  16. As long as you fit the right connectors, then it does make life easier. (by 'right' i mean if the loom has a 'male' fitting, you fit a 'female' to the wire, sounds obvious now, but its a pain when your upside down under a dash wondering why your connectors don't fit ....... (cough ..........not that i'd know about that ......... cough .......)
  17. To add a few ideas intro the pot so to speak .... When spannering, i have a supply of clear food bags, the ones that have the white bit on them that you can write on, are the best. Put stuff in them and label them saves a lot of 'hassle ' later on ..... Take a biro, make sure it works. (see above) Take a cardboard box/crate, to put the above bags of bits in, believe me, it might seem daft, but nowt worse than having piles of 'stuff' in the way. As said before, Digi camera ,not just to put pics on here, useful for reference as to how things fit. Flask and some grub.
  18. Joris I don't know you, but you have my condolences. Steve
  19. My advice on your above list, replace all the uj's on the prop shafts, in my experience you do one end, then the other will give up a week later ........ (been there done that) Nothing ruins Landy oil seals better than having the vehicle sat for ages, so you'll probably be better off replacing most of them. And as to those philips floor screws .... i couldn't agree more ... horrid things .......
