  1. Just been browsing Milweb, as you do on a Bank Holiday while trying to convince the other half that you have all sorts of important stuff to catch up on in 'the office' Really nice MK1 Daimler Armoured Car just been listed. If only I had the pennies..... That's enough dreaming - lol What I was surprised about was the fact that the 2pdr gun was still live and could be leagally owned with the right paperwork. This reminded me that I has sometime in the dim and distant past seen an advert for a 'live' 25 pdr. Do I just need to wake up and smell the coffee or can mere mortals really get the right bits of paper to buy these sorts of things? With the VCR act it seem difficult these days to even obtain a decent replica weapon for hanging off the back of your pride and joy..........
  2. I just think it is downright wrong that we don't seem able to do more to save our heritage in this country. Yes there is some scrap value in the ship, yes the government is on it's upper for cash, but why can't the Ark Royal be retained alongside other historic ships. Does anyone know if we have saved any Royal Navy vessel since HMS Belfast? I think we are slightly more fortunate in the land based Military vehicle world, that there are so many people dedicated to saving/preserving our history. Yet as a nation we don't have a flying example of the worlds first commercial jet airliner, What about the Gloster Meteor, in line with a posting the other day no flying example of the Mosquito (in the UK at least). How abut a Typhoon (the WW2 vintage) they made a huge contribution in the land war in Europe. Why is the UK absolutely incapable of preserving key items for posterity.:banghead: I'll just climb down off my soapbox and have a lie down in a darkened room for a while :nut:
  3. Hi Steve, I would be interested. Date wise, I probably wouln't be fussed just the earlier a date is set, the better. Keeping my fingers crossed
  4. Hi harry, you're english is muuuuch better than my dutch :-) hello en onthaal aan het forum:cheesy:
  5. Greetings from another snatch owner
  6. I can only agree. I think we are very fortunate in the UK that private individuals are able to own ex-military vehicles and do hope that activities like this don't occur in future to threaten this. From what I have read on this forum Ireland crushes their ex-military vehicles, and it would appear that Canada may be going the same way.
  7. Hi and welcome to the forum I'm not sure our friend from Sheffield understands how cold it can get in the 'windy' city Hope you find plenty of interest
  8. Hi, and welcome to the forum. I would contact Russell at GI Joe (no connection to me :-) http://www.gijoearmystores.com/store/shop/shop.php?c1=Vehicles and Spares&c2=Snatch Armoured Land Rover He has various rear bodies that he is willing to sell parts from and also seems to be able to pick up other misc bits and pieces. I've found him very helpful and reasonable on prices for the odd bits and pieces I've needed. As for the paintjob you mentioned on the other post, I think the KFOR version would be nice, but there a couple I know of that are going back to NI spec and mine is going to remain as last used in Op Telic. So really its up to you. From looking around theres soon going to be the full range from what I can tell. Cheers and llok forward to seeing photos of the finished paintjob :-)
  9. Hi Matt, An ambitious project. I would have thought that buying a complete vehicle would have been a cheaper option, but I' all for people with ambition I'm by no means an expert, and I'm more than happy for others with more info to help me learn  I believe the rear compartment (hamper) does weigh around 1.2 tonnes (1200 kg). I thought the overall weight of the vehicle was around 3.5 tonnes, but don't have anything to base this on other than hearsay. The current Snatch Vixen may based on an up rated 4 tonne Ricardo chassis (the CAV100 brochure I have says it uses the 4 tonnne Ricardo chassis), but based on what I have read this chassis was only developed for the last version of the WMIK Landrover so the original Snatches wouldn't have had this capacity. So i would have thought 3.5 tonne max, I think earlier heavy duty chassis were limited to 3.3.tonne but can't swear to this. According to the slim MoD publication I have on the Snatch, it uses the Heavy Duty Land Rover Chassis. This publication is dated October 1992 so I think it predated the Wolf Chassis. It has Salisbury HD axles front and rear (the front ones are unusual and only found on beefy L/Rovers) As such they seem to command quite high second hand prices. Rears seem to go for the £150 mark, but the fronts if you can get them seem to be around £750. I believe the latest Snatch Vixen is fitted with a Diesel, but I'm not sure if it is the standard Wolf 300tdi, a bored out (to 2.8l) version of the Wolf 300tdi, or the Brazillian TGV(??) 2.8 turbo diesel (updraded L/Rover 300 tdi). I also believe that like the latest WMIKs the Snatch Vixen may be fitted with an Auto box, although the standard Snatch has the LT85 and LT230. Aircon was by Ebersparcher (sp) and was fitted in the two compartments behind the drivers and passengers doors. There is an example of the kit for sale on ebay at the moment. I don't know if you have a front bulkhead to go with the windscreen, but from poking around mine recently, it would appear to have a standard steel bulkhead lined with the composite panels. I hope that helps, and look forward to any other postings you may recieve. Cheers, Julian
  10. Hi Brooky, many thanks for that info. Perhaps it was something I didn't need to know as it opens up more interesting options :-D
  11. Yet another small step on the way to completion. Congratulations on your determination. I was astonished when I found this thread exactly what you had to start with and all of the work put in so far. Looking forward to the finished article
  12. Greetings and welcome to the forum. I don't give you long before you've purchased a 'green machine' trouble is it won't end there, one seems to lead to two and two to three :-)
  13. Hi Simon, welcome to the forum. My policy is to ask the other half if you can have something truly outrageous, and then offer what you really want as a compromise So I'd start with a cheiftain, then maybe backtrack to a 432 and the offer the saracen as the compromise lol
  14. Hi Iain, It's a 432 fitted with what's called a Peak Engineering Turret for a General Purpose MG. There are several marks of these and I'm afraid my knowledge isn't good enough to tell you which. Hopefully someone else on the forum can enlighten us both Cheers, Julian
  15. Greetings, Thought I would start the chorus of 'How about some photos'
  16. Nice truck. welcome to the forum. I know there are some other ambulance aficionados around so I'm sure you'll get the info you want. Cheers, Julian
  17. Firstly apologies, I seem to be asking lots of questions at the moment  As the whole world probably knows by now, I have a Snatch Landrover It has lots of extra cables and the 24v system for radios along with various wing mounts, clansman aerial mounts behind the top hatch etc. I was wondering if anyone had a pictures and/or information on the correct radio equipment that should be installed. As there's lots of surplus clansman sruff around at the moment I figured now might be the right time to pick up the necessary bits. Cheers, Julian
  18. Nice Truck Shame you are looking to sell, guess it's just time to move on? Never can get my head around driving regs, I guess you need a class 2 (or whatever they are called now) to drive? I hope 'she' finds the right home soon.....
  19. Hello again Colin. I,ll pop over and look at joining the Exmil Landrover Crowd. Once again your proving a useful person to know. Cheers, Julian
  20. Been looking around the forum to see if I could find out how to get the service history of my Snatch Landrover. Does anyone know if the RLC B vehicle history records include Snatches? If not does anyone have any tips on where I might find the information? All I have been able to find out so far was that it last served in Iraq (as I believe all those released this year from withams did). I served in Op Telic 9 with H Squadron 1 Royal Tank Regiment and also with 49 Battery, 40 Regiment Royal Artillery. It would appear that they were based together for at least some of the deployment, and was returned to the UK in May 2007. Cheers
  21. G'day David. Is it a runner? As you'll be able to see, I'm also new too this, but feel the question whether to restore or not is a personal one. My preference is to keep things fairly original, but able to be used. I think anything mechanical needs to run... Enjoy the forum
  22. Nice Photos, especially given the weather :-) Only down side is my places to visit on a grand European tour is just getting longer and longer......
