  3. Those front axles. Not identical but very similar to the 1911 Leyland. Can you tell me the make of thrust bearing? Fascinated by this old vehicle. Robert

  6. Do you know I have wondered about this too. There was a recent and small ceremony in Queenscliff, Australia, where the first shot was fired, and there has been the odd Great-War book launch. Beyond that ANZAC troops were first deployed in Egypt and Gallipoli in 1915, and the Australian siege artillery brigade was the first Australian unit to become active on the front line in France, and that was in March 1916... so there is bound to be some community activity here in the future. There will surely be a big bash in November 2018.

  8. As a variation to Doug's analysis of wheel rims, my early Leyland has bands with ridges to hold the rubber on, BUT there is a raised edge on the outer side of the wheel rim.

  13. It may well be genuine. Small "souvenirs" such as this were commonly posted off to family from the front. Unfortunately for the soldiers there were an abundance of souvenirs but not much room in their kit bags! Robert
  14. Re the unknown engine... It has similarities to the White and Poppe 4 cyl. I have a photo of an early Halley sporting something similar...

  16. Thank you all. Impressive puller Marcel. The closeness of flywheel to Leyland engine makes it impossible to get very close to the centre/crank with a puller. Do I want to pull from further out? At least I have a spare. I shall explore the removal of crank and flywheel as a unit. I shall try to resist the temptation to hit it hard with a sledge hammer... Rob\]
  17. On a different theme... I'm struggling to separate flywheel and front pulley, each at opposite ends of my 1911/12 Leyland crankshaft. Both an incredibly tight fit. I will make a puller for the pulley as I have nothing that quite fits and i expect that to work. However, the flywheel is BIG. It houses the cone clutch. That's it on the right... What to do? Robert
  18. I was wondering whether it is possible to match the aforesaid colour to a Pantone colour code? My understanding is that these codes can be used by the paint industry (and printing industry alike). Perhaps there is a Pantone number which exactly matches Richard Peskett Brown and can be interpreted by paint manufacturers far and wide.

  20. Surely the legume would normally be green? So does yellow suggest something is off or dry? Horse feed?
