  1. This should answer your question: http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?33342-Alvis-saracen-kremlin&highlight=Alvis+ebay
  2. If memory serves me right, it's an Alvis protoype. I might be wrong on the make, but I remember this for sale on ebay a few years ago, without an engine or gearbox, but in virtually new condition.
  3. Slight deviation from the topic, but in the background of Pic three, is that the Centaur that was picked up in Iraq in 2003? It has certainly been through the wars! Funny, I don't remember it having THAT much front end damage.
  4. Fair cop, but the last time I looked, the question was posed by someone who is in all probability, NOT going to be carrying a bunch of stinking sweating squaddies who have been out in the field for weeks on end. Yes, after a couple of days of that, a fart won't make a difference (btw, I know what it's like, I wore a uniform for 14 years), but you will have to admit that it IS a bit hard to hide a stitch ripper stinker when you're battened down. Especially if the people you're with are just joyriders. As a tongue in cheek response, astronauts on the gemini and apollo flights had their suits on all the time, apart from taking the helmet off at times I think. Bit like the wet suit effect I suppose, and I bet it still wasn't funny when the neck seal leaked what they'd just released! Best, M
  5. Don't fart inside an armoured vehicle. It makes the other occupants VERY unhappy!
  6. ....and sits on the wing just behind the TUAAM box. This is what the cable box looks like:
  7. What I find interesting is that whilst the lightning flash spacing on the door badge is similar to the one on the belgian badges, it seems that the lightning bolts pass UNDER the wheel on the right hand side, which is similar to the british badge shown in Wally's scan. Maybe a scan of the badge alone from Wally might shed more light. I must confess that without knowing the history of this particular vehicle, I can only surmise. I love these mysteries!
  8. The annoying thing is that I have the exact same badge. It came in a box which my father in law kept when he wound up his antiques business. I have never been able to find out what it is. Apologies for it being sideways. Have no idea how to rotate the picture. The badge is brass, and has two bendable pins on the back.
  9. Here's a few more pictures of the trailer. Still none of the insides though. It it still has the uk registration number of the vehicle it originally came off, as can be seen in one of the pics. The two hitch looks really flimsy, and there doesn't seem to be any front stand or jockey wheel. regards Martin
  10. Hi all. The owner has now decided to sell the trailer, and has now finally bothered to pull the trailer away from the wall, and show the data plate on what he has been saying, is a military bdr trailer, when trying valiantly to sell me the damn thing without my having seen it! Seeing the pictures, finally, since the owner is one of the most evasive people I have ever met, I know it's not a bdr trailer, but am still curious, like Chris in finding out what it is. Anyways, the trailer was manufactured by MF Robertshaw ltd, of Bletchley, Bucks. There is no mil reg number, and it was manufactured in August 1956. I have attached a picture of the data plate, as found on a maltese site. Would appreciate any info or leads. regards Martin
  11. She's looking really good. In Malta a couple have been restored, so at least they're starting to be appreciated a bit more. Too many ended up in scrapyards, after years of sterling service. Good luck with it! Living in Malta, I might help with some unobtainum, so let me know if there's anything you need. It might take a while because I work abroad for weeks at a time. Couldn't help noticing the front axle. Nothing that an hour with an angle grinder and a good wire brush can't sort out. I tend to do it when I have one of the MHVT vehicles off for an exhibition, and the front axle is covered in grot. Makes the front look so much better. Mind you, we have trucks, so the axle is a little bit more evident than the one on a CA! The Seats are looking mighty fine as well! Regards Martin
  12. I know this is an old thread, but I found a pic of a Bedford CA in Malta in 1971. I's a Royal Navy one as well, although most of it is hidden by the naval personnel on top of it! Not yours I know, but I though you could add it to your collection. All I can decipher of the registration is 28 RN *3. Oh, before anyone asks, I asked the owner of the pic before I posted it. Btw, what happened to the CA. was it ever finished? Regards Martin

  14. Oh well, they came up twice, but she's such a beauty that it doesn't matter! Martin
  15. Hi all. Does anyone know the current owner of the vehicle in caption? It currently carries the ERN 18CE73 on the bumper, and would like to find out if it is the correct number for the vehicle. If it is, it's got some interesting history, and would love to speak to the owner about it. I have found a picture of it, apparently taken in 2006, as shown in the shortcut below. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2255/2353946055_e72dfa9a1b_z.jpg The DVLA website lists it as still on the road, so fingers crossed. 16. The fact that i've never seen these mentioned is why i put up the post in the first place. The relationship with the Libyan government started in the 70s. There are numerous records, including photographic evidence that while the british forces were still in Malta, Libyan personnel were already present on the islands. In addition, search and rescue went from being the remit of the RAF to the maltese government, who divulged it to the Libyans, and the Italians. I think that the last remnants of the Libyan presence on the islands, at least, ended in the late 80s. That's all historical fact. What is also interesting is the date on the battledress, which predates the Ghaddafi regime, and must have been an order placed by the Idris regime. i knew these existed, because somewhere else I have a size 13 pair of trousers, also in mint condition. However this was the first instance that I came across a complete set, so I couldn't resist! The collector who had them had stopped collecting in the late 80s, and with him now dead, I can't find out the exact provenance, unfortunately. Having worked in the oil industry, and starting out in Libya, I, over the years, encountered numerous Libyans wearing some form of battledress, even in 2011. However, I never asked them to take the uniform off to check out the labels. That might have been asking for trouble!
  17. Noticed an advert on a maltese site, selling off military gear, and duly went along, and purchased a few items. The items were all the property of a now deceased maltese collector, who, from his long association with the british forces on Malta, had managed to accumulate a number of items, amongst which, was a collection of more than 1000 badges, from all the different branches, and from all eras. He even had a Bedford QL tanker, which is now at the Malta Aviation Museum, an Austin Utility, and a number of motor bikes. These had all been sold by the time I got to his premises (luckily for my bank account), but I managed to get a few uniforms, all in rather good condition. The first I'm putting up, is a Libyan 49 pattern battledress, c/w trousers, which, apart from two American uniforms, were the only items which were not actually british.
  18. Here we go again: http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/european-international-sites/87514-uncle-sams-hanger-belgium-february-2014-a.html Hasn't this featured already before here. I recall drooling over the quad in the pics shown before in another thread. Martin
  19. Is it just me, or have I seen much worse, even on this forum? It looks to me as if the engine is covered with some blue plastic. Wouldn't it be grand if someone went, pulled it out, and restored it? Martin
  20. On Mark Cook's book, there are numerous instances of Lightweights with bar grips fitted, from prototypes to in service rover 1s, and also series 3s. And didn't the early lightweight series 3s come fitted with Dunlop Trak edge as standard, and were then changed to xtragrip grips and/or Michelin XCLs later? regards Martin
  21. Yes, I noticed that as well. i wish you luck. I've had the same problems with donations to museums. Unfortunately, first refusal when they lose interest in donated items doesn't exist, but there isn't much you can do.
