  1. Mike That will do the trick for you and you wont have any licencing problems. I have dealt with Doug in the past and found him very good, lots of advice etc... Cheers Tim
  2. LOL I know that position well, the trick is to get yourself into the one 'sweet spot' where you can hold it for more than 10 seconds at a time whilst wiggling the caliper furiously.. Main brake pads are around but they are a lot more expensive than steering ones, circa £100. Try the usual places first, banisters, marcus glenn, xmod, or ebay. If the seals are mushy it could be that brake fluid was used by mistake, which will also destroy your mc seals, so test the fluid that comes out by smearing it on some paint to see if it removes it! As the Haynes manual says installation is the reverse of removal but I guarantee you it will take twice as long to get it in right... Good luck Timbo
  3. Sounds about right mate, the left hand one wiggles out a lot easier than the right hand one. It took me literally hours to get that one back in !!! Also they should go in without any need to resort to rubber hammer if you get the angles right! Richard Banister does seals for these calipers should you feel the urge while you have it out... Timbo
  4. I spoke to the chap from the belgian museum (who has been on here occasionally), who said they have a tendency to destroy the records when the vehicles are cast. Shame as i have a (very scratty) belgian scimitar in un white, and would love to know where it served. Favourites seem to be somalia or balkans... Cheers Tim
  5. Oh I'll bet that drove the tankies potty!!! I have given up trying to explain and now just say, yes it's a tank....!
  6. Weather looking good Stu.! Any HMVFers who want to say hello we will be arriving at 9 saturday am, and setting up camp with 101, ferret, rb44, Sabre and lightweight. In attendance will be myself, Toolman and Ferretkitt. Kettle will be on..and we may even have some beer! Cheers Timbo
  7. Last week heading up Micklegate in York, nice looking Lightweight, with a spotlight on the nearside..
  8. Not really Rich! I still have to put a new exhaust on the Lightweight, sort the brakes and top up the oils, hoping to get some shed time in the evenings this week! Otherwise I will be spraying the scooby green and black (ex sas y'know ). Cheers Tim
  9. Andy Unfortunately my transportation arrangements precluded me having a play yesterday, but I hope to make up for it next weekend! See you Saturday morning... Cheers Tim
  10. Keith Now that was a sily question wasnt it with Rob around !?!!! Tim
  11. Yesterday teatime Stolly on the A64 near Tadcaster. It had just pulled over onto the verge and the driver was in the process of exiting. Although I had a bootful of tools I was heading the opposite way at speed. Whoever you were hope you got sorted!
  12. Andy I dint have any at the moment but I should be in the shed towards the end of July so will get some for you then. The decks have been removed for blasting and painting so should be able to get you some good shots. Cheers Tim
  13. Nice to meet you today Stu. I am looking forward to giving my new engine a good workout round that VERY BIG play field of yours! Cheers Tim
  14. LOL Robin, I have just moved into my new shed today, a great improvement over the previous dump. I now have a new(ish) industrial unit, a painted floor, sink, and even a toilet! Cant wait to do some of my won racking and stacking and get all my cr*p properly sorted out...
  15. Alan A Spartan would be a worthy addition to your collection. The primary benefit is you can open the top hatches and stuff loads of people in the back which is, quite frankly, great fun..! Tim
  16. OK after enough time for me to calm down I retrieved all the bits from the 4 corners of the garage and had another go. This time I pulled the plunger back as far as it would go then used a bit of cardboard as a spatula to force grease in. I then used a metal rod to release the air pockets and kept forcing grease in and hey presto the job was done with only a modicum of mess this time..! My strong recommendation would be to go for cartridges though! I am off to tension my tracks tomorrow... Tim
  17. Amen to that Vince, but I think it is even more of a con on the railway as the quality of components doesn't seem to be anything like as high as the MOD stuff... As I work in finance on the railways it drives me even more nuts!! Tim
  18. 0854 means CVRT 7500 is Spartan The 3000 designates it as an RAF vehicle so the code change to 7500 simply means it stopped being an RAF vehicle... Hope that helps. Tim
  19. Hi Alan I think CTG BG is the Combined Arms Training Centre Battle Group at Warminster. RE CS is the Royal Engineers Close Support Troop, equipped with CET's, AVLB's and the like. It is described as CTG rather than CATC because the Merlin report picks up the current designation. Somewhat spookily it looks like I have the sister vehicle to your Spartan, mine lists RE CS Troop HQ CTG BG on 8/4/97!!!!! Cheers Tim
  20. "In a shed with at least 50 others, if I remember correctly !Iain Yes I heard that too, though not sure about the 50 - more on the way I think...!
  21. Guy Try removing the grease nipple from the idler cranks, squirt wd40 in, replace the nipple and regrease. Also slackening the tracks right off and retightening them sometimes helps work it loose. Tim
