  1. The 'Particulars of Training' page in my Dad's AB64 has the dates all over the place, too, so perhaps it's not that unusual. In his case, the dates (from top to bottom) are: 03/09/49 13/02/47 17/02/47 10/03/47 01/02/47 03/02/47 10/01/47 10/08/48 16/04/51 01/04/51
  2. Hi, I think it's the same one discussed previously on this thread: http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?30068-On-Ebay-Military-Motorcycle-and-Sidecar HTH, Kevin
  3. A couple of shots of Militant Mk. 1 6x4 artillery tractor 36 BM 01 at the Ponderosa War Weekend last year (10th July 2011) by special request of Mr Daymond... Hope these are OK, Kevin
  4. As others have said, it's a Russian IMZ Ural M67 made up to look BMW-like. Seems a little strange to have absolutely no paperwork, though, considering it was running as recently as 2003, but I guess it all adds to the 'mystique'... Kevin
  5. Hello Graham, I don't know if you've already come across them, but the following websites give a lot of information about the various types of British grenade: http://www.inert-ord.net/brit/index.html http://www.millsgrenades.co.uk/ HTH, Kevin
  6. Hi, I believe they're actually French White armoured cars, as shown here: http://www.chars-francais.net/new/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=685&Itemid=36 (towards the bottom of the page - look for 1918 Automitrailleuse White). If my very poor knowledge of French is up to the task, I think it says that they served in mainland France until 1933, and 'overseas' (presumably in North Africa, given the photo) until 1941. Kevin
  7. There's a Cheetah Mk. IX on display at Thorpe Camp in Lincolnshire: Whether they have any spares they don't want, however, I couldn't say, but it might be worth contacting them. Kevin
  8. Coombe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Adventure Park, a few miles east of Ilfracombe - haven't been for a few years, but my daughter used to absolutely love it there. I'd definitely add my vote to The big Sheep, as well. And there's Bovington, of course, which I've somehow always managed to convince my better half is 'on the way' from Lincolnshire to Devon... Kevin
  9. No worries Chris, you had me doubting myself (I couldn't for the life of me remember who told me they were date marked), so I thought I'd better check before I replied to you... . Cheers for the info on the markings, by the way. Kevin
  10. Yes, they were the 'Bren Tins' - mine arrived yesterday & as hoped/expected, they are .303 mags & wartime dated to boot, so just what I was after... :-) Thanks again for everyone's input Kevin
  11. Cheers for that - looks like an interesting site, I'll have to see about enrolling at some point. That's very helpful Chris - I'm pretty sure they are .303, but I've only seen a pic of them in their wrappers thus far & it's a bit hard to be absolutely sure. In the end, though, I just took the direct route & ordered one, so I should know soon . Incidentally, if they are the type you reckon, do you know what the refurbishment entailed - was it just returning them to their original condition, or were they modified at all? Thanks again to you both, Kevin
  12. Hi, this is possibly a long shot, but can anyone confirm whether the part no. 1005-99-961-8393 refers to the original .303 Bren magazines with the pronounced curve, or to the later (straighter) L4A1 7.62mm versions? Cheers, Kevin
  13. Spent 3 hours there today (well, yesterday now!) with the family & apart from the torrential downpour around 4pm (complete with hailstones - so much for the English summer!), we had a very enjoyable time. A good selection of MVs & re-enactors/living history groups & the 'battle' at the close was quite entertaining, pitting a half-a-dozen or more fallschirmjager (with mortar team) against two jeep loads of British paras. Definitely one for the diary again next year, Kevin
  14. I did a mini-tour of the area around La-Roche-en-Ardenne in August 2008 & managed to find plenty of stuff to keep me interested... :-) http://www.flickr.com/photos/pyewipe-jct/collections/72157626677539144/ Unfortunately our time ran out before we could cover all of the sites I'd planned to visit, especially those in Luxembourg, but hopefully we'll be going back in the not-too-distant future & be able to stay for a bit longer. With or without the military interest, though, it's a lovely place & the people we met were some of the friendliest I've encountered anywhere. Kevin
  15. Hello Stu, I'm hoping to pop over with the family on the Sunday & wondered if there's a programme of events/timetable available so we can make sure we don't miss anything... Cheers, Kevin
  16. Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone - and that's even before I've won the lottery & shared my largesse... I do think, however, that the 'digging up' suggestion is indeed probably more likely! I've hit a couple of air-raid shelters over the years & recently helped a neighbour remove a load of .303 & pistol ammo from her veggie patch (if you see what I mean...), so I reckon I must be getting close... Kevin
  17. Hi all, just a quick message by way of introduction. My name's Kevin, Lincolnshire born & bred (for my sins), archaeologist by trade (24 years behind the trowel...) & lifelong MV enthusiast. My dad was an infantryman in the late '40s/early '50s with the Lincolns & then the Warwicks, but to his eternal shame I always preferred armour - First to Second World War, for preference, with a leaning towards 'unfashionable' British '20s & '30s stuff... No vehicles of my own, sadly, but there's always the hope of a lottery win, eh? Cheers, Kevin
