  1. One thing about it being cleaned,it showed up (it came as a surprise!) bits of chrome on it (looks like it was a civiy carb).
  2. Yep.off my M55 truck (LWB M54),its from a 10L Continental R6602 engine which is in my M55 & the reason for a rebuild was the M55 broke down for the first time (on the M25) last year. The prime suspect is the carb (as in wasn’t a fuel or elec problem & the inside of the carb was black with soot, from the amount of times the engine had backfired though it),even if it it’s not the problem,I go with every little helps & it can’t hurt!
  3. & it is the only Carb I have seen, with its own grease nipple.
  4. It was made by Holley in the 1950’s for a 10L engine,,which does about 3/4mpg,which explains why it is the size it is!
  5. Are these Withams Tender or Auction J60’s,as early days but the ones I got at Auction seem to be okay (they turn freely & one is running my Spartan),
  6. It depends on where you are,as I use a place in Burgess Hill Sussex.
  7. & all hulls are shotblasted pre a re-build,to if it is cracked/worth it.
  8. A C.V.R.(T) in service in the 1970’s was about 8 ton (a hull weighs in about 6 to 7 1/2 ton) & because pure ally is easy for Artillery frags plus anything bigger than a standard Inf round they are a mix of metals to make them denser & light.
  9. Yep,done by Mike Priest on the 27/09/2009,LB4280.
  10. Out of interest my 7.62 BREN gun is an (Enfield) model L4A4 & no.UE73A19840,any production info on it?
  11. A good question,my theory is that as the 7.62 BREN gun is still in service (India & Pakistan armies),they are worth more live than as a de-act,But has anyone got a better answer?
  12. It’s bound something more diff than the self-recovery ropes are not set-up in the eyelets,at the front?
  13. As I understand it anything single-shot is legal,as one guy had an MG34,converted to single-shot,but this sadly doesn’t apply to the U.K. mainland.
  14. FYI in Jersey,I have shot a SLR,M16,M14 & Bren gun (303),but then the Law is local their (not coved by the U.K. Parliament)
  15. Is it a Sabre done up as an Op Granby (Gulf war 91) vehicle & none went there?
  16. Knowing all three “Heathens” & having the good sense not get involved in something 60plus years old & moan about it (for not being up to modern traffic speeds, theirs a suprise!).My thoughts are,if the issue is not just about speed, but its lack of power (& these trucks where underpowered from the factory).I’m okay with it as long as it is a two way street (you can put the right engine back in),my truck an M series US vehicle (1959 M55 LWB 5-ton truck) doesn’t sufferer from being underpowered (a 10L petrol) + it makes a lovely sound with its straight though exhaust! But a lack of power in the Ward La France explains way most WWII GMCs are still petrol,in the end its down to the owners choice.
  17. At Bovington, they have a Centurion cut in half (i.e.sectioned),but that’s the only one I know of.
  18. No,as the owner of a LWB M54 (M55),I can confirm it a single line air/hydraulic system, the pedal down to a hyrdrovac is fluid, the rest is air, which is fine when it work’s!After WWII the US Army tested all types & this was the winner!!Something to do with dry brakes when fording & not having to wait for air to build-up under fire,is my best guess.
  19. Hi, Is it true that Scorpion crews (in the British Army) were issued with Sterling’s?
  20. I run/have an M55 truck (LWB 5-tonner,see above photo taken at the W&P show),which was designed to move 2 Honest John missle's & 1 on a trailer.Which on the plus side, mine looks like the special equipment needed was never fitted.
  21. Just to say that my Spartan M.C.T. (02FF25) is ex-BATUS,& shipped back via Antwerp for disposal, when I looked at it I guessed it had been used for spares for the other's.
  22. Just to remind you that a Chieftain has 2 engines a donkey engine to start the main pack & Alpha 13 packs are the best/latest model of a bad bunch!
  23. Look’s like lot’s of work,well done & having 5 good engines for 2 C.V.R.(T)’s is a nice problem to have!
  24. Hi, Having got my Land-Rover Ex-Military history back,I wonder if anyone has heard of the D.D.E.?
