  1. Seeing as they do so many, nice jig for sandblasting/spray painting,I have heard of them used on bigger tanks, but not C.V.R.(T)S.
  2. Correction you need Castrol Valvemaster Lead Replacement for a petrol engine with valves.
  3. I use a fuel add (Castrol Valvemaster Plus) in the M55 truck & C.V.R.(T)s,but as a diesel engine has no valves it shouldn’t need it.

Hi,anything on an M55 (gas) truck?
  5. Thanks recymech66 for the update AS90 info,I stand corrected. Holdings of the Challenger 2 (CR2) Main Battle Tank are to be reduced by approximately 40%. With current holdings estimated to be 345 the proposed reduction will bring the operational fleet down to just over 200 CR2’s. AS90 Armoured Artillery Vehicles are to be reduced by approximately 35%. Current holdings of AS90 are estimated to be 134 and will be reduced to 87 under the terms of SDSR. AS90 conducted fire missions into Basra on Op Telic and subsequently into the Basra region on later Telics, AS90 is not currently deployed on Op Herrick in Afghanistan.
  6. Hi Chris it just that in 10 years, they haven’t needed it to lob 155mm shells at anybody (Iraqi 1 or 2?) so I am surprised they haven’t be mothballed, like the Chally 2’s to save money.
  7. Hi,sorry if this is not the right thread or been discussed before, but does anyone know about the AS90 155mm SPG system (I think thats what its called & if still in service!) & the Defence Review,(as I think they were last used in anger 2 decades ago!) but I stand to be corrected?I heard that some of the Challenger 2 fleet was going to be mothballed,to save money, but nothing about the AS90.
  8. Luckily for me its a hypothetical question,as all my fleet is petrol, but if I was going down the diesel route I would use white diesel,as it gets rid of any tax questions + not much in it pricewise, alltough (I believe) you should add an addive so the fuel is compatible with older type seals & rubber.
  9. A problem would be if you if your Fv432 were on private land using red diesel for 90% for the year & you attend the W&P show at Beltring!Even though it private land,is’nt it classed during the show as public highway?
  10. Hi, My 2ps worth (& I have been following this thread for weeks) is older AFVs designs met the C & U regs back in the day & 80s/90s designs ones don’t,after all an AFV is designed to kill & they don’t have crumple zones!Plus on a C.V.R.(T) the steering brakes can’t be pulled back at once because their is a metal pin (Called an interlock,in the 1960s designed ones) put in to stop you pulling both steering levers at once (by mistake).
  11. Re the pics of the 105mm Pack Howitzer, where does the range finder/distance thing go as I can’t see one on back pic of the gun shield,or am I just being thick!
  12. I would have thought it is a width issue, the old 1980/70’s) CVRT's were under width & the new ones are over 2.55m wide, the newer they are,the fatter they are.
  13. Re (something extra to cart around, or lose!!) quite, thank god their seems to be no G.P.M.G. equivalent as it seems a bright idea in a dry,lit armory/lab but at 3am,on a wet night in the field you think why?
  14. Hi, My question is what doe’s an FN MAG need with a ground spike?
  15. Hi,I have seen the AT ex-RAF Regiment plate about on C.V.R.(T)s,but not the AY type is it a rare one?
  16. I plan to sell it at Beltring next year, now I know what it is (I do the 91 Gulf War,so no good to me)a MG13 mag, looks mint & a round comes with, but do they go for?
  17. I found this mag in my stuff at W&P this year (I have a 32ft long truck & it has a lot for junk/precious things on board!),it looks for 7.?? & dated 1938.I thought it was for an FG42,but they happened in 1942,any ideas?
  18. Hi, I thought I read in Wheels & Tracks once, that a Panther hull was found in the U.K. in the 70’s (Epsom,Surrey I think) & it was a made under R.E.M.E. supervison! As the Panther factory was overrun by the British, restarted post-war & the French had a tank regiment of post-war Panthers,or is it just rumour?
  19. Hmm,nice when everything is new “fit for purpose” but give it 30+ years,bolts/nuts rust on etc.
  20. With 50cals,I borrowed the real thing & its ground mount, which was sooooooooooo heavy.I must be getting old as in the 50cal vehicle TM for a ring mount its a 3-man lift,my replica is cast from ally & the barrel unscrews from the body, making a nice & light lift.On my replica, for two year's it had no hole in the barrel for the bullets to come out of it & no-one said anything,it being 12ft in the air I guess helps!
  21. FYI my SLR is an ex-Lithgow one (Serial No,AD 6310757).

    MoD cuts

Well as currently the British Army goes from 30mm to 120mm I would be surprised if any Scimitars came out via Withams, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Chally 2s & AS90s when to another country like the Chally 1s did.
  23. My M55 is about 13ton empty & can take about 10ton in the back,it had a base overhaul in 1969 so I guess it got a replacement R6602 engine as when I got it in 1998,it had about 2500miles on the clock. It does about 3 or 4 mpg,as Grasshopper (aka Vince!) has just changed the fuel filter,I will find out on Sunday how much fuel tank stuff it caught, but for a big petrol lump (10L) they (fingers crossed!) are a good engine.
