  1. Long story short,me & truck (1959/M55) went down to the all new Beltring-on-sea & with just 1/4 a mile to go,the big end went!It was towed in by some Dutch guy's,who said that ex-Dutch army truck's had the same engine (R6602 10L petrol) and post release were re-engined with diesel,so any lead's?
  2. Range fate is a shame (if anything is left) would be most interested in a missile turret turny thing (Tech-term!) for my MCT (have the missile rack's + turret box) already.
  3. don't call me Surely! A qutoe- from the movie Airplane & the Major-Genral song, is that is his no of post's rank in H.M.V.F.!
  4. P.S. you are I am the very model of a modern Major-General, I've information vegetable, animal, and mineral,
  5. Great War Truck Winner - "Best non-bus" award. Seaton bus rally August 1997,nice & don't call me Surely!
  6. Yep me to,A 10L Petrol ,6 cly engine (which has A straight though exhaust) make's a lovely nosie! But as it is the LWB version (of the M54) at over 44,000lbs & 32 feet long, short or light it not!
  7. That's good,my cic59 M55 (10L,Petrol 5-ton Reo) does 3/4 mpg on a good day!
  8. Sorry for the lateness of reply but pre-Beltring my pc went U/S & am now back online. As it was a bit "damp" the first half, (arrived to mud left in dust!) I didn't get to see your new toy close up,but from the pic's she's way different to how she was & all Kudos to you for not going down the usual Bang 1-2-3 route,In conclusion great, superb & "nice"!
  9. I agree,as it sounds great but any liability is now transferred from the Gov to you!!!!!
  10. & was he the guy, when watching a re-run on the news at (Wellington barracks, I think) told Mrs T the P.M to put her ******* head down as he couldn’t see! R.I.P. a legend
  11. I would have thought the REME museum would be all over this, applying for a lottery grant, launching an appeal in order for a new building next it (near them if no room) for a new building to house the collection undercover + a arena like Bovy’s (to draw the punters in) & long-term a workshop building where Friends of the REME museum (like Bovington has) could restore things.I just hope its your cunning plan...
  12. I would have thought it was a width issue,as early CVRTs were under the legal road width & new model CVRTs are much wider.
  13. By 1943 I would have thought that any factory would be working flat out,re numbers for Dieppe,D-Day etc.
  14. I thought it was the combo of the turret rings on the Allies tank were too small to be upgunned (with the 76mm & 17prd exceptions ) & most German tanks in the ETO (European theatre of operations) were taken out by anti-tank guns, but the Allies tanks during WWII were “questionable”.With the allies it was a numbers game, the Germans built a small number of good tanks,I think they worked on (I think) 6-4 Shermans per Tiger (pity being in the first Shermans!) RE the Russians, the Panther was a German take on the T34!Plus the engineering went the other way,I think the AK47 was influenced by the MP44 & the RPG (rocket propelled Grenade) was influenced by the German Panzerfaust & US bazooka. But I stand to be corrected.
  15. Any vehicle pre-1960 or ex an MOT due to being tracked, has to be up to MOT standards (so rather than the gov doing a check via a currant MOT its down to you to be roadworthy (otherwise things like insurance cover goes south!).
  16. Well a short distance yes but given (given the obvious cost of fuel & the more hidden one of track wear,my take on the law is if you damage the highway in a tracked vehicle you pay to have it fixed!) & long dis (on the back of a beavertail HGV).Military vehicles are not known for their MPG (my 50s M55 has a 10L petrol lump & a wastepaper size carb with a grease nipple & does 3mpg!)
  17. I had the 432 v CVRT argument years ago & as I only had access to a 2 axel beavertail HGV to move it (max load 12ton,I think),went down the lighter CVRT route.Aside from being well under width (1970s CVRT is under 2m wide) and having separate driving & brake systems, does it meet C&U regs?
  18. Yep,but as my vehicles are used for only 6 months (out of 12),it makes good sense to me!
  19. I am looking at using a Solargizer in 24V guise. 735X150 24-Volt w/ lugs 2-24 Volts Solar Energy http://www.pulsetech.net/productinfo/app_chart/Performance/735X150_PLI.JPG
  20. Does a UK road legal vehicle have to have clear reflectors & white sidelights (showing) to the front or just sidelights?
  21. You are caught in the ongoing war between “good Mike” & “bad Mike”,the WLF is their latest battleground, good luck with that! The lorry body looks okay except I take it sans floor,do they intent to scrap or repair it?
  22. At least the FV432/3 (AKA Bulldog) uses the same hull as the FV430 series,on a Stormer the one thing I believe is are the same as the CVR(T) fleet are the roadwheels!
