    First MV

Why would you get moaned at for painting Willys jeep in whatever colours you want :?: . You have to remember that after the war civilians owned these little beauties and they were painted all sorts of colours. Now the choice of either MB or GPW over an M201 is basically up to you. Do you want a wartime jeep or a jeep :?: . If you want a wartime jeep and buy an M201 and make it look like a wartime jeep you'll never be happy  because you didn't actually want one an M201 you wnated an MB or GPW. Now if you're not worried about it being wartime and you just want a jeep the M201 is a better option. Better electrics, stonger fast more powerful engine, stonger tranfer box etc. At the end of the day the decision is yours.
  3. I disagree with you that most of the damage is caused by a dirt bike over a 4x4. I've used a 4x4 and I've used dirt bikes and I can tell you that the 4x4 does more damage than the bike. Yes I agree the bike digs in a little to firmer ground but so do larger heavier vehicles.
  4. All you have to do is fill a form in at the post office for a lost log book and hey presto a new one appears on the doors step a few weeks later  .
  5. Here's the link to Roberts site http://www.dataplates4u.com Here's a couple of pictures of my data plates on the lid... sorry I don't have dimensions for you. These are from a June 45MB These are from a June 44MB
  6. I was just about to say you had it the wrong way round......but you beat me to it Llyod  . Steve why go to so much trouble to make your M201 the same in so many small details :?: . After all you said you're not showing it, so does it matter that you have a zinc plate and not a brass one :?: .
  7. Hey Lloyd email me some pictures will you. I've seen the upside down bumperettes on jeeps in other uses too, it's been discussed on the g whether this was done in the factory or not.
  8. Lloyd you beat me to it!!! Like Lloyd said it could be an early jeep without the light fitted. The serial number USA 2078036-S relates to a May 42 MB, this would mean that there was no blackout light. Judging by the lack of jeery can carrier on the other jeep (this is not gospel) they are probably both be early jeeps. Also note the bumperettes on are on upside down.
  9. I have an original wiring diagram if that's any help, otherwise I haven't got a clue.
  10. Do you mean a dynamo :?: . Or a modern Alternator :?: .
  11. I have a couple here's one to a site that I'm writing a colum for http://www.motorcycleracingnews.net/DamianRowley.htm the team I'm riding for http://www.phaseone.co.uk and the official EWC site http://www.worldendurance.co.uk as soon as I have my own website I'll post the link too. Cheers Jack for the publicity...
  12. Yes Jack it seems my secret is out. I race a Super bike in a 3 rider line up in the World Endurance Championship competing in 500km 6, 8 and 24 hour races. I've been doing a lot of testing over the last couple of months hence I've not been on the forums. I hope to fit in the jeep restoration in between the racing and a full time job but it seems to have been push to the back burner for awhile.
  13. You'll find once you fill your trailer she'll drink fuel. Not so much on the motorway but around the country roads and around town with all the stop start stuff. I presume youo have a Hotchkiss engine in your jeep :?: . Hence the 55 cruising speed.
  14. It is a good idea to run a second but if you have the battery earthed properly there's no need for the second one.
  15. It was quite common for the French Army to fit a cut out switch with a key type thing, normally this was near the glove box. Are you the first civilian owner?
  16. Lloyd Road Sure tried screwing me over last year ,long story but they are £80 more expensive than Footman James for my two jeeps. Need less to say I'll be with them this year.
  17. Do you have any pictures of these numbers :?: It does sound like it's been with the French. Is it an MB, GPW, or M201 chassis :?:
  18. So where do you guys get the LED's and resitors from?
  19. After 5 months of not touching my jeep due to lack of money time and inclination  . I finally got the the body blasted :!: . I've started to cut the rest of the rotten sections out of the body. I've cut the the axe/shovel section and re enforcing strut out ready for the new panels.
  20. I want one.....where did you get it??? Maybe I'll try stuffing mine  .
  21. I do agree that there's no need to pull the gearbox unless you really have to. But if do you might aswell replace everything that way you won't need to pull it out agian in 6 months. It's really up to you how long you want to put up with the thrust bearing noise.
  22. While you have it apart you might aswell change the brass bush in the fly wheel and the check the thickness of the plate as you may need to change that too.
  23. Is that the one on your site with the tub off?
  24. Welcome aboard Jim nice to see you have found this site.... Jim's a real jeep guru so if you need info he's your man .
  25. Here you are Bowie Is this your new jeep or one which you are selling?
