  1. Whilst it's out strip it, replace the front and rear seals, you may need to put a little silocone on the splines to make sure no gear oil leaks past. I would also replace the intermediate shaft and bearings, that's normally the wining noise that comes from the transfer box.
  2. Hi Jack, the complete advert was has been copied from ebay. It's exactly the same other than the text font , the price (classified ad) and the last bit about the questions. I've notified ebay, if everyone does it maybe they'll pull it.
  3. Hey that is a scam that was my jeep that I sold a couple of weeks ago. How do we tell the ebay moderators?
  4. I sold it for the simple reason that I have a 90% original 43MB to restore and I'm looking to buy a 67/68 Fastback Mustang. With the prices of Mustangs going up and up I'm not in the financial position to have all three. I also race super bikes in the world endurance championship and as you can imagine this is a drain on my time & funds. I'm not knocking Dodges, Harley's or any other vehicles on the contrary they are good I just know that jeeps are for me. http://www.damianrowley.co.uk/wp-gallery/World%20Endurance%202007/Pictures%20by%20Nick%20Green/Virgin%20Wheelie%20copy.jpg[/img]
  5. Well mate I always seem to get the girls wanting a ride in my jeep. You can keep your shiny Harley I'll stick to jeeps and Jap crap for the girls.
  6. Have you got any pictures of it? Just curious to know where you got it and how much you paid? Was it advertised as a repro of a genuine side mount?
  7. Tony is this mount a post war French mount or a field mod. They never actually made a mount for the side, all the ones you see in pictures are field mods and not factory made.
  8. Jeep jeep jeep..... pro's; fun to drive, usable, cool as hell, babe magnet, great off road, parts easy to find, most part reasonably priced, reliable, easy to work on etc etc... con's; getting very expensive to buy, hard to find original un-restored ones, not to fast on the motorway, NOS parts getting pricey (thanks evilbay) a little lively at speed, infectious one turns into two into three etc etc I'd buy a jeep everyday of the week, had three, got two love them both selling one wish I wasn't but s**t happens. Still want more but don't have the room. If you really really want a jeep get one because you'll never be happy with anything else.
  9. The steering felt fine hence I never even thought about it. It was only by getting hold of the tie rod with both hands and trying to twist it back and forth that I found that one end was not moving. The only time I had a problem was at speed, there was obviously not enough movement to allow the wheel it's natural movement whilst driving. I'm not an expert but this is what I discovered with mine.
  10. I had a similar problem on my jeep when I first got it :help:. Everyone said that's normal it's just a bit of wheel shimmy. Trust what I had was not normal in anyway shape of form :eek2: :eek2:. I would hit about 40mph and the steering would go wild :banghead: , the wheels would bounce off the ground twisting the chassis, the only way to stop it was to slow down. I also had it over bumps, not every time but enough to notice it. I tried tyre pressures, wheel balancing and swapping the wheels around and nothing cured it :azn: I then looked at the steering, and I found my problem . I had a seized tie rod on closest to the wheel. I changed that, then I could go flat out in my jeep with no wobbles or shakes :yay: :yay:. My two pence worth for you .
  11. STEVE :-o :what: :oops2: Who's Steve? Arnhem not to sure about that but I'm going to try and take her over to Bethune next month for a proper run. :thankyou: everyone all the kind posts. There's nothing like completing a ground up restoration and being able to sit back with a :-D and say to yourself "I did that :yay:   "
  12. For those of you who have followed my previous posts http://www.hmvf.co.uk/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=38&topic=84.0 on my jeep restoration, here's the final one. After 2 years I can finally say I have joined the ranks of a fully fledged vehicle restorer . Today I took my little gem for her final test drive just to make sure those little problems I had are cured. The good news is my jeep has been reborn. It's been a long and at times never ending process but I can say I'm over the moon with the end result. Here's a few pictures for you. http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/medium/IMG_2340.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/medium/IMG_2344.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/medium/IMG_2357.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/medium/IMG_2352.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/medium/IMG_2037.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/medium/IMG_2043.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/medium/IMG_2046.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/medium/IMG_2341.JPG[/img]
  13. I think you would shocked at how much it costs :-o :-o. We'll deal in euros as most of what I have to do is in Europe. To give you some idea of what it costs I'll use the factory Kawasaki team for an example. To have a logo on their bike, they do it by length. It's a staggering 1,000 euros :-o for 1cm. It's not quite that much for mine but it's not cheap :-D
  14. I think the phrase 'it's not what you know it's who you know' ;-) comes to mind.
  15. Hi Jack, yes I have been taking my time, I've been a bit of a lazy bugger . I seem to have found the motivation again to get her finished. The racing is not going as well as last year but I have had worse seasons. Check out my site for all the latest news http://www.damianrowley.com
  16. Now mines a 43MB chassis (I know this from the changs to the chassis through production) with a Hotchkiss body, fenders, hood, screen and motor. I thought about putting an original body on it but then I would be taking away it's history. It was first rebuilt in 56 then again in 68 then it served with the Gendarme in Noyon then a new motor was put in in 1990. It then seems to have only done 475km on the new motor and sat until it was auctioned off in 1999. All in all it was a good jeep when I got it but needed some work. I did 8000 miles in 4 years and thought I would learn on this one before I do a factory restoration on the original one. Like you said it should be easier second time arond as I know exactly what to do.
  17. Thanks Steve, I do believe that if you're going to do a job do it properly. Cripp it would be nice to get her done for W&P but I have to fly to Germany testing for 4 days. Then the day after the show I fly to Japan for 10 days for round 3 of the championship, so time is really against me. I have learnt that what ever you do takes at least 3 times as long as you originally thought. I agree that they look great with a fresh coat of paint, but it's all the unseen work replacing bushes, spring shackles, bearings, brakes, gear/transfer box internals, steering system, wiring etc etc that really make the job. This has been a ground up motor pool restoration it's just a shame that it's about 60% Hotchkiss . The next one I have lined up is a 95% original September 43MB. She looks fine from a distance but when you drive her you realise how much work needs doing. This one will have to wait a year or so before I start her. Still hunting for the last few original items and the funds to complete her to a high standard.
  18. Things that have been going on in my garage.... It's been a long slow process since I went back to racing but I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The rolling chassis took me 5 months but the body has taken 18 months so far. This is due to my not so good welding skills and having to rely on a friend to help me. My welding coming along now and so is the tub. So here's a few pictures of the job so far. http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/27DSC01888.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/27DSC01941.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/27DSC02804.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/27DSC02739.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/DSC03113.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/DSC03120.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/DSC03124.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/DSC03122.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/DSC03146.JPG[/img] Hat channels finally going on..... http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/DSC03176.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/DSC03156.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/DSC03165.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/DSC03167.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/DSC03171.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/DSC03169.JPG[/img] And finally we test fit the body.... http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/DSC031721.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/DSC03174.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/650/DSC03173.JPG[/img]
  19. Tony uses Fusion Canvas, I know he's found his stuff to be inconstant in the past, not sure if he still uses them. There's also BeachWood Canvas in the US and with the exchange rate at 1.91USD to the pound you can't go far wrong with them. I had one of their top on my script 42GPW, very pleased with the quality of their canvas, work and attention to detail.
  20. I had a screen & trailer cover off Jim a couple of years ago. Both are top notch and he's a good guy too.
  21. Can I ask how you've aged the helmet? Don't worry I'm not interested in your idea of selling them. I bought a repro helmet a year ago which looks far too new inside and out and I would like to age it.
  22. They may kill you one way of another but they are sooooo much fun... Here's my friend Rune putting his little gem throughit's paces. And Steffen going taking the highway....
  23. Off roading a vintage jeep is one of the most enjoyable experiences. Here's few of the pictures from my trips. http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/792/DSC00813.JPG[/img] My friend Richard in his 45GPW http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/792/DSC01458.JPG[/img] Of course the trips to Norway are always fun... http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/792/DSC02109.JPG[/img] http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/792/medium/155_5571.JPG[/img] The only down side is the damage the muddy water does to your jeep. you must strip and clean all the huds if you're going to do the really dirty stuff.
  24. From what I know when they came off the production line they were all OD. The Navy contract jeep had US Navy in Yellow the same as the USMC Forest Green jeeps. It seems when the jeep were painted grey the underside etc were left OD.
  25. That's a Hotchkiss rim... Slat rim on the left combat on the right. Check out Ren's site for info on wheels.... http://www.vintagewiringofmaine.com/jeepguy/rim/wheelid.html
