  1. Hmmmmmmmm I hope I'm not putting my neck on the line here. If it's got a Ford engine gear/transfer box and a composite body with plenty of Ford parts in it's condition from the picture..... about £8k to £9.5k but don't take that as gospel. If it got a repro body and I would pay at least £500 less.
  2. From the pictures it looks like a good jeep, but pictures only tell half the story. GPW203798 DOD approx 05/25/44. Now price really depends on how original it is, how much you're willing to pay, and if the restoration has been done well or not. Do you know if it has a composite body and the body number. Or is it a repro? Is the engine, gear/transfer box Ford? Are there lots of 'F' script bolts and parts? This will mean as a Ford it's a little more original, unless it's a dodgey repro part. The rear lights aren't correct the E brake handle is er...not to sure. The temp gauge looks like a repro and from I can see or the others they look like Stuart Warner so they would be correct. From the angle the picture is taken from the hood looks like an early Willys one. I'm not to sure why there's an exhaust clamp on the exhaust though.....mabye it's been repaired. The wind screen inner and outer look correct and it seems the have 5 combat rims. I would say from the pictures it's a good jeep just a few small things to be done. Have you seen the jeep or are these pictures you have been sent?

  5. This is the speedo you'll need... I found this on the 'g' the other day. It is the Autolite speedometer used in Mb jeeps up to serial No. Mb 137760. Here's a picture of Frank Berg's slatgrill speedo These are very hard to find as they were only produced for a short time. If you buy a repro be carfully not to buy the King Seely copy with the trip meter. I had one and the last digit on the overall mileage went up in tenths so it would read 17,899 miles when the milage was actually 1789.9 miles.
  6. I have a repro for sale but not for a month or two though. Sean Elliott in Australia sells restored speedo's or will restore your's if you find one. What make and DOB is your jeep?

  8. If you are looking for the correct place to fit it. The decontamination unit was held by a special bracket very similar to a fire extinguisher bracket. It mounted on the floor behind the right seat. The mounting holes for this bracket were already predrilled in the jeep body. If my memory serves me correctly they were fitted in mid 44 to the end of the wartime to one in five jeeps. I'll check this though so don't quote me.

The srceen jumps out as being totally wrong :shock: no steps no hold down clamps grill (at least they got the correct number of slots) mirror location hood tub fenders axe & shovel seem to be magnetic :wink: I think they have taken a modern TJ Wrangler jeep and doctored it a little to look like an MB/GPW. I'm sure if I spend enough time I can pick out loads more.

  12. Tim I have been along th Ridgeway from Swindon to Henley a couple of years ago.... it's beautiful but there's no challenge...it's just a little to flat for me. I go to the South Downs and the Devil's Punch bowl and Norway for jeepin in the snow, but I'm always looking for new place's. The wood area looks like a lot of fun. Here's some pictures.... Hmmmmmmmmm seems that I'm always taking the pictures of my mates in there jeeps.... Hey finally one of me.....

  16. Hi Tim I've never heard that one before :? . I think you maybe confused with the shipping plate attached to the dash... I'm not 100% sure by I think they were fitted in late 44. I check that when I get home. Here's a picture of a repro plate from 'Robert de Ruyter' in Holland.

  19. I've taken around 400 pictures of the strip down and restoration of parts so far. These have helped me on numerous occasions when reassembling parts etc...
  20. Thanks Jack.... I must admit I'm not sure of how many hours I have put in so far :oops: . I've would say on average 4 hours a day and most Satudays for around 5 months.... I did wait 3 weeks longer for my axles than expected so I didn't get too much done over that period simply because without them I couldn't progress.
  21. WOW !!!!! Where do I start? Fun , dispare :? , bad bank balance :cry: , glee, acheivement , neglected wife :oops: .....er I'm sure there's a few more words to discribe it too. I've learnt things can take 3 or 4 times longer than you thought and some things are a doddle when you thought they were going to be as hard as hell. I started this restoration at the beginning of March and due to being a little busy and running out of money the last time I did any work on it was late June. I'll get back to work on it in September now. Body off in a few days. I sent the axles to Tony Sudds. He set up the back lash on the diffs. I then stripped clean and repainted them. New wheel bearings, brake lines, shoes and slaves cylinders. I stripped each leaf spring cleaned replaced all the spring clips, rebuilt and painted them then new spring shackles and bushes. Each one took around 4 hours. I replaced the intermediate shaft and front/rear seals on the tranfer box. The 1st/revserse selector shaft and 1st gear selctor fork in the gear box have been replaced. There was nothing wrong with the engine so it was just cleaned and painted. I've started the body now but it's thorwn up a couple of small suprises :shock: . There's a little more rot than I thought but it's not the end of the world. I'll add a little more later about the highs and lows etc and updates.
  22. Karoshi check these pictures of the early disk rims. Are yours the same or are they M201 wheels? I've heard of people buying Hotckiss rims thinking they are Slat Grill disk rims :cry: . Disk rim painted. Look at the difference between the M201 wheels and the early disk rim.
  23. You'll need a black 'Sheller' streeing wheel. They are different to the M201 wheels so be carful what you buy.
