  1. Glen Rather than mail directly, i'll add to this discusion if i may. Being the prevous owner of the WoT Glen is talking about, i can add that i had serious over heating problkems when i first had her 6 years ago, Rad would boil over and blow all it water out ! I had the Rad re cored, never a problem since, must have done 1000 miles no problem since, yes she got hot up hills but thats the beast for you !. The last problem i had with her about 18 months ago was on the way home from a local show, the cab mounted oil filter pot sprung a leak, ( when checked, there was a pin rust hole in the bottom) i lost some oil, I was able to find a replacement filter pot with the good generousity of another forum member which i replaced. The reason i am mentioning this is, ever since then, ( and to be fair i hardly drove it) the oil filter never got hot, like it used to, i'd quite oftain burn my leg on the old one! but i wondered why this new one did not warm up, its full of oil ! and oil pressure is very good, but there is a slight kink in the bottom feed pipe, would that restrict oil ? could this be anything to do with Glens problems ? Jules
  2. Hi Guys Does anyone know if there any records of Prewar Civillian cars that were requsioned by the war office and where i might find any information ? Cheers Jules
  3. Thanks Stan She looks really nice, and glad to see her still out and about ! Jules
  4. Lauren, You are expearencing the same symptems as i did with mine, it may be you are filling up the Rad too much as Robert says, but if it contines to do this, you will find your Rad blocked, i had mine re -cored, and never a problem again. that said, WoT's do suffer from fuel evaperation and you will find as i did that she won't want to start within 3 mins of stopping after a long run, give it 5 mins and shes fine. The other problem i suffered once and subsequently my pal who has bought mine is at pressent is a loss of power after the engine gets hot, this we thought was the plugs, but it apears it is the coil, make sure you have a good quality V8 coil fitted. Jules
  5. HI ALL I'm trying to track down a set ( 24) of Valve springs for my Humber 4x4, they are 'double' springs. firstly does anyone know of any New old stock ? next does anyone know of any manifacturers of Valve Springs ? Or finally does anyone know, if the spring fitted in these Humber 6 cylinder side valve had any other uses in later cars that would be the same ? Cheers Jules
  6. Paul, Thanks for the photos, but i beg to differer, what you call the 'simplified' post war type was also actually also used in the war. I have recently bought that type new old stock already on a web strap with both ends made up, and the strap is stamped with the makers name and 1943. I'll try and add phoyos later. Jules
  7. Thats very interesting Paul, we are talking along the same lines, i'm having a new canvas made for my Humber and have asked the company to fit these buckles as i too was convinced that they are more in keeping with the correct type. Interestingly we dug a Wellington Bomber crash site many years ago and found several of this type of buckle on what must have been equipment straps, and that crashed in 1940. Do post some pivtures please, i'm trying to find the Wellington ones but can't at the moment. Regards Jules
  8. NO, IT's not another thread about 'What colour was British Canvas This is far more important ! WHAT TYPE OF BUCKLES WERE USED IN WW2 ON BRITISH CANVAS ? Now, we see these days the standard Brass webbing buckles, as used on all kit, but i am led to believe, and have proof that a different type was used that being the steel sliding gripper type, not that used on American canvas, but simular. There is a name for these, but i don't know it. i have an original cab canvas with some on ? What do you think guys ? Jules
  9. Thanks Richard, Yes, think we have exhausted Speedy spares stock ! Jules
  10. Does anyone know if the engine in the ww2 Humber, 6 cylinder side valve was fitted in any other Humber vehicles ? I need to find a set of VALVE SPRINGS and wondered if they would be the same in other, perhaps more available engines Any leads apreachated Thanks Jules
  11. yes, i saw this engine, far to expensive for what you might get out of it !
  12. Hi Andy, No i don't have a spare steering wheel, but interestingly, mine is all steel with the correct humber centre ? early / late models ? Jules
  13. Andy Sorry was not wishing to step on anyones toes! but listen, it seems that there are a small number of us Humber owners trying to rebuild these old girls, i'm sure we all have spares and patterns that we could share/swap. As you may have picked up, i'm rebuilding a 4x4 Personnel with the PU body, so need slightly different to your 'box' builders. But i do have some running gear spares, steering columns, gearbox and transfer box. What i'm looking for is :- Generator with twin pully (or just twin pully) reserve petrol supply cock ( on floor in cab) Windscreen surround frame or paterns and of course any PU body fittings Jules
  14. Chris My C8 had a steel back body, i had it all repaired, and new 'tophat' sections welded underneith, a real fiddle, but it looked right. Rick had my other C8 to rebuild with a complete but poor steel body, he was going to build a wooden one, but then sold the project on. the chap that bought it kept the wooden body, so what he did with the steel one i don't know ? but would help you out. there was an article in Classic Military Vehicle about him and his C8 finished in Bomb Disposal colours. I'm sure i still have a good pattern for the rear metal wheel arches if you need it. Cheers Jules
  15. Chris, i certainly have one spare wheel, maybe another. i'll pm you when i have had a chance to check. Jules
  16. Hi Guys Right, i am about to build from scratch a PU rear body for my 8cwt 1942 Humber. Might even have to get the wheel arches made if i can't find some. So If anyone else has done this before and has any patterns, drawings or indeed spare parts please shout. otherwise if anyone wants one made it would make sence to do more than one. cheers Jules
  17. Tim, or the Cross & Cockade fourm Jules
  18. I'd cover it in Battery acid. Many years ago, i collected English Civil war artifacts, i had a nice original Helmet and front Breast plate, i had to buy a reproduction back plate and wanted to age it to match, I dug a hole in the garden, put some rock salt in the bottom, layed the new steel plate in then tipped more salt on and covered with earth. some months later i aquired an original 17th century back and forgot about the buried one. 5 years later my dad dug it up by mistake and it was like tissue paper and just fell apart. would have looked good on the Time Team ! SO DON'T LEAVE IT TOO LONG !!
  19. Robert, The vehicle Glen is talking about is my Wot2 radar truck, you remember me having trouble with NGK plugs, but just could not get any champion ones. You set the distributor up for me, and i'm sure you changed the condenser then. Jules
  20. Rick Just Google Spitfire Spares . com Or you will find him on the Flypast Forum, Historic Aircraft. J.
  21. I heard a very worrying story last week that 3 jeeps were stolen from W & P last year ? can anyone confirm this ? Jules
  22. Wattie, stick a photo of it on the Flypast Forum, Historic aviation, not only will you get a good answer, but i bet you sell it pretty quick ! Jules
  23. Hi Guys Sorry to drag up this old question again.............but i can't be the only one longing for a set of 900 x 16 Dunlop Track grips, I noticed last weekend a very nice WOT1 with SIMEX ST24 900 x 16 that look just like the old type tread, that were obvously quite new. Who sells these SIMEX ST24 ? Jules
