  1. Nice Pics Richard, i like the then and now shot ! I really must get over there soon. cheers Jules
  2. I'd agree with Big Ray I think this has been discussed before and the opinion is, that if wanting an original Matt finish then it pays to give an undercoat, and a silk or gloss first before the dead Matt. I'm about to do just this on my Humber 4x4. I've ordered the paint from WARPAINT who are going to supply it 'Chalk Matt' like blackboard paint. Jules
  3. Just asking the same question..................anyone ? more Photos please ? Jules
  4. Here's a Photo of one of the ones i rebuilt.
  5. Hello Keith you only need one full seat for the Driver, this is the reasonably standard tubular British type seat, the base is on sliders and can be slid fore and aft. The drivers mate sits on a simular base plate, not ajustable, but there is no back, there is a canvas back pad fitted to the rear cab wall. also the mates seat is hinged at the front in order to get to the compressor filter. hope this helps Jules
  6. Yes, nice job Ian, i'm impressed ! why does yours look like it is 'hopper' shaped when the B/W photos show the box as rectangle ? or is it the photo angle ? Well done mate Jules
  7. Thanks Guys A trip to my local DVLA will answer, on the original green log it does not give a year of manufacture, but a first registered date of 27/09/56. i'll let you know Jules
  8. Hi Guys Thought is was about time i registered my 16h. when i got it, it still had the old logbook, but it was last registered in Northern Ireland, 1960's. not been on the road much since then, certainly not in the last 30 years, so do you think the DVLA will update that original document and i keep the old registration number? or, if not, and i have to start from scratch, will it need to have an MOT first ? I know MOT's are now scrapped for old vehicles, but i was told that because it would be a 'first' registration, it would need one, then no more after ? Thanks Jules
  9. Thanks for that Andrew, interesting example of why not to use 'new old stock' Cheers Jules
  10. Ok, I'm going to look into having some made, a price at least............watch this thread ! Jules
  11. I think these were used on Bedford's but certainly on Humber's I have one for my Humber, but the Felt 'Bellows' part has had it, falling apart, does anyone know if there is a replacement that will do the job & fit, or shall i have some made ? any one else need a filter ? Jules
  12. Ah yes, found it, thanks everyone, but its certainly not as easy ! sadly nothing to add to the collection though............ Cheers Jules
  13. Whats happened to the Military vehicle section on ebay ? i can't find it where i used too ? used to be under 'other vehicles' but no longer ? Jules
  14. I have the chance to get made Canvas Radiator Muffs to the correct Humber patern, as always it works out cheeper the more we make, so who is interested, they are quite complicated, with the suround then a roll up center section, at the moment the cost is in the region of £175 each Any orders ? Jules
  15. Have been working on the doors, they are quite complicated, an Ash frame, with an inside flap, this is to stow the canvas window top, quite time consuming work, but done now. Next job, rebuilding the Windscreen !
  16. I have always used WARPAINT from R & R but have had to add matting agent as thier paint says it is 15% gloss, i'm about to ask him if he will supply it at 10% in the hope that it will be matter, but will the type of thinners i use make a differance, to be honnest i tend to buy a 25ltr drum of 'standard thinner' which is celulose, but mixes with synthetic paint ok, but do you think that adds a sheen ? Jules Keith your Humber looks lovely, and quite matt in that second photo
  17. Thanks Chaps, well if all this has not put me off trying a set then........................... perhaps as mcspool says, they will look good on the workshop wall !!, though i might just fit the back sections if i can find a reasonable pair. i don't think i will be going to my Canvas maker to get him to copy my ones, he won't be cheep and after all you have said, a waste of money. Jules
  18. without getting too deep into this................... how does anyone explain that the Humber sides are fitted with popper studs for attachment to the hood, while the US hoods are fitted with the turn tab type fitting ? why were they not compatable ? Richard, thank you for the 'as fitted' picture. I bought a really rough set from Dallas dig out the other week, only a fiver, they will make good patterns to get some made though. however, after seeing several of your comments about having them but not using, would i be better trying to buy an original useable set ? Jules
  19. Great photos, some really clear detail to help us CS8 owners out ! Thanks for posting ! regards Jules
  20. Yes David I agree with you and Pete, i could bare the rear sections, but will try the doors. are the ones you have a brown colour ? were they all made by Humber ? and did Humber make the main Hoods as well ? Jules
  21. I'm very close to spraying my Humber now, and i have some good original B/W photos to copy cammo patterns from. I'm going for the 'Dark Earth' and British Green. However the original photos look as if the finish was dead matt ? and if i do this what implications may i find further down the line ? Cheers Jules
  22. Hi All I know these exist, indeed i have a rough set dated 1945, the rear section is windowless and the 'doors' are glazed with that plexi glass, but look as if they are designed to fold down, rather than swing open like the modern replacements of these days. My question is, what evidence is there of these actually being used on British jeeps in ww2 ? and if so, as the set i have are a brown/khaki colour, and presuamably the US jeeps imported to this country for us to use, came with US top canvas which is much darker in colour, there would have been a distinctive differance in colours ? What can anyone tell us about the US/British canvas provided for British Jeeps ? Any photographs would help too. Cheers Jules
  23. Hi All just thought i would post some photos of my 1942 Humber resto, well, its actually a 're resto' as it was 'thrown' together in the 1980's in what must have been a very hurried affair ! So, as most of us want to do things properly these days, i decided i needed to start again, so i stripped off all the 1980's work and took her back to the chassis. She drove very well, and as some of you may recall, i drove her back from Northern Ireland in May 2011, all the way to Oxfordshire ! but as last year went on, i felt that things needed doing, for one thing she burnt far to much oil for my liking, so the engine was certainly going to need a rebuild, this was left in the very capable hands of Rex Ward, who after a nightmare of trying to source new engine spares finally managed to return me a 'zero timmed' engine in July this year. Whilst this was happening i was busy stripping the rest of the vehicle and starting again. i also farmed out the canvas work to Rod Champkin of Classic Covers near Norwich who i have to say has made a cracking job, with real attention to detail, you will have to wait a while to pictures of this fitted ! The bigest job is of course rebuilding the rear PU back body, as the timber body put on in the 1980's was off some old truck. i've ammassed most of the material for this but not started it yet, as i have beem concentrating on the front end. so far i have rebuilt the steering unit, seats & mounts, doors, windscreen, radiator and much more. i have fitted most of the new wiring loom i had made by The Wiring Harness Company. anyway here's a few photos and more as i progress. Jules
  24. yep, i hope to be there, sharing a stall. Jules
  25. Hello Fred I'm interested where you got your C8 from ? was it a complete basket case, or an older restoration ? Jules #
