Dont know if this will be of any help I've got some 4 volt lead acid caving lamps which get total abused and forgotten and when charging through the lamp unit i leave the bulb on to draw some current from the charger then discharge and recharge two or three times

Did it work before? If not it might be the drive in the gearbox is slipping. If the old memory is correct its only held inplace by the drive flange on the output shaft of the gearbox the nut may not be tight enough

No. Not 100% sure yet but i think it's a dodgy repro distributor cap just put the old one back tonight. after the 6th or was it 8 inforced halt called the recovery service
