  1. They are of a thick material with the khaki serge on the inside. For winter wear. Camo ones used principally post war, and I know RTR blokes using them in the 60's. Get yourself a copy of the film, 'They were Not Divided' for gear and equipment.
  2. Have you tried the Tank Museum Library. David Fletcher knows a bit about it.
  3. There is also a slight shift in general museums policy. It was always considered very naughty to actively sell off artefacts and a museum was frowned upon for doing so. Or even have their status downgraded. But now the MLA is having to rethink this policy as more and more cash strapped museums are having to sell off items to keep the place open. Or move stuff out as storage is at maximum.
  4. Big question, will A museum buy your vehicle. Per se they don't have spare cash for vehicles, always relying on donations. Plus whose to say the next curator/director thinks it isn't part of the collection policy and out it goes. Musems aren't the be all and end all of great conservation and restoration.
  5. Better get there quick before they do this again!
  6. That is quite hard work doing that. I used to try and list a few quintissential British things on American ebay, but it was a bit of a nightmare. Don't forget places like the states have different laws for each state and county.
  7. They have been known about for ages. As mentioned earlier, conservation being a issue they will stay there until... Or thinking about starting a Military Archaeology Museum.:undecided:
  8. They are muppets on ebay. In reality somebody reported it and the item was pulled. They (ebay admin) never investigate after the event as its usually dim girlies or light in loafer do-gooders who run the admin. If we are supposed to be in europe, ebay should be the same all over. I had a collection of whisky miniatures pulled as it is alcohol, in case a 'minor bought it.' Go on to French ebay and there is a category for wines and champagnes.
  9. Duxford has one of the original Tirpitz action, one that sank. And pretty sure one at submarine museum portsmouth.
  10. I was thinking that. You should have a look at the Rhodesian military museums for vehicles. Probably grease the right palms. As the government archives can't afford paper for photocopying, I am sure a few shekels in the right place could secure a nice collection.
  11. Forgot to add, as an ex-RAF Regiment Gunner, the Regiment is quite underplayed so would welcome some recognition for their earlier days.
  12. Don't see a problem myself. That particular vehicle, I should think would be quite rare, as the Rolls Royce versions are. There is a replica Rolls Royce AC for sale used in Empire of the Sun. The RAF Regiment museum's Roller is a copy. Plenty of 'pretend' Tigers and at least a few Stug's made out of 432's.
  13. Field marshall, do you go in slighlty deeper. Where people paddle and splash about, cold fingers makes their rings drop off?
  14. Here I am in Jordan, detecting on the Hedjaz Railway Line looking for T.E. Lawrences lost pocket watch, but only finding Turkish buttons and Mauser cases.
  15. Not yet eddy, but we shall see. Don't sell a tank to buy that ground pen radar, you would have to start up as a contractor to make use of it more. Cheaper to buy an excavator. I have my feelers out for a 'Hoard Hunter'. Also have rumour of a cache of buried Enfields (motorbikes) in a forrest. Intially got excited as thought rifles, and they wouldn't be damaged by weight of earth, but bikes certainly will.
  16. I have been borrowing a Laser B1, these were found on an old 8th USAAF base. This was about two hours of detecting, had a splitting headache and was on a different mission. Click on the link for the finds and description. identification of finds 1.doc
  17. Have you seent his Stalwart, apologies if posted before, but very entertaining.
  18. Are you sure its bread, i thought it was potatoes?
  19. The whole scrap question is interesting, what went and what went into a big hole or overboard. Looking at post War Singapore, there is a lot on the 15" guns being cut up for scrap and brought back to Britain. Therefore, the effort to bring that scrap 'home' seemed worthwile, as opposing leaving them there. Or was this a political act regarding the whole value of the Singapore defence and the infamous guns pointing out to sea?
  20. Funny mentioning the Halifax. Just saw info about a Halifax in a lake in Germany which is 'known' to be there. But not touched as it has full bomb load and two of the crew still in situ. Although have feelings that they should be repatriated (sorry for the American terminology).
