  1. Carb icing is caused by the drop in temperature, up to 30 deg. C, that happens when the fuel evaporates. Moisture content of the air is the biggest culprit rather than temperature, it can happen at any temperature up to 30 deg.
  2. The Cadman Firefly is the one in the book and is partially restored but a long way from being finished. As far as I know, no work on an engine has yet been attempted though Rex does have about five to choose from, though all from ranges.
  3. The C&C M4A4 was sold to a US collector and is still in the UK awaiting shipment. More work has been done on it as the original rebuild was only to a running condition, no internal work having been completed other than the bare minimum. I wouldn't say mine is the only runner. There is the C&C example and the Firefly and Crab at Bovington are both potentially capable of running. I think mine is the only M4A4 restored fully from a wreck anywhere in the world and possibly the only one in the UK that could be driven at this moment in time (unless the batteries are flat.....:-D)
  4. If you think that was a slap, just stick around.....
  5. Just click on the box marked classifieds......
  6. Good point Alastair. I suppose Loyds , having little in the way of protection for the internals suffered more than most. My front engine gear casing had the rh mounting knocked off by a large shell hitting the lower side but this did not damage anything else in the engine. 1 1/2" of armour plate protected it from all but direct hits.
  7. You mean they are not all the same parts? :red:
  8. Funnily enough, I am him! :cool2:
  9. It has been my experience that the current owner doesn't really want to sell anything.....
  10. Sherman V is M4A4 so multibank. Sherman IC is M4 with 17 pdr gun so R975 radial.
  11. Looks like a dent over a bridge disc to me........!
  12. Not at all but Maurice is also doing a Sherman V and the engine for that is harder to do....
  13. You are right.... I remember when Budge was selling take outs for £250 and new ones in boxes for £2500.
  14. Well with radials being 2 a penny, I should think so too.......
  15. Glad to have you here Paul! Just be careful to differentiate between knowledge and opinion on here......
  16. The USAF have given up ownership of wrecks because of a fire in the records, the US Navy haven't.....
  17. Eberhard is a manufacturer who are still making footman loops and the number was the part number of the one I needed but sadly no longer made. I think footman loop is a US term but as you say with origins in the horse drawn carriage days.
  18. I believe all the airfields have dumps too, however, having spent all my life surrounded by dozens of wartime airfields and been involved with airfield museums on and off in the last 30 years, I've heard load of 'eyewitness' statements of Jeeps, radial engines etc etc all brand new in crates..... Nothing, other than rubbish has been found as far as I know. Of course, yeterdays rubbish is viewed differently today but I feel the vast majority of these things will turn out to be wishful thinking.
  19. Home made cup eh? That is civilised.......
  20. There used to be loads about but seem rarer and hence more expensive now. I'm after a couple if you have some....
  21. You can almost imagine units offering 75mm tanks up in an effort to get more 17 pdr!
  22. The originals were cast steel and indeed that would be the most accurate way to replicate them. However, what with making a pattern and getting them cast in small quantities, making them myself as and when required is easier. Besides, I like a challenge!
  23. Looking good! Are you restoring her back to Vietnam spec and if so will you fit a 20 pdr?
