  1. It is based on a Cent ARV. It was originally made for League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and subsequently modified for a BBC Great War production. It was never meant to be a WW1 'replica' as LXG was a science fiction film. I have pics of the bulid but they are all too big to attach.... Adrian
  2. It's a hobby! If it becomes a chore, you could end up resenting it.....
  3. As an aside, Charioteer -15 was the pick of the bunch to my mind. It was a welded hull, originally a Cromwell Vw and a rare vehicle. One of the few with a full engine bay too! Adrian

  5. Would it involve parachutes perhaps.....?
  6. A lot of rubbish is spoken about this subject..... Basically, a goods vehicle, pre 1960, used unladen, is exempt from plating and testing. This also exempts the driver from needing a C licence to drive it. A WC52 is 2250 unladen and 3000 laden so you can drive it on your licence and it does need an MOT and you can put things in it.
  7. Great pics, just a couple of points. The Humber is armed with a 37mm but this is not a 2 pdr. The 2 pdr is 40 mm bore and a completely different weapon. The Windsor Carrier is a T16. Built by Ford in the USA for the British army, the Windsor was built in Canada and they are very different. The 17 pdr was not strictly speaking used in Comet. That had a '77mm' which was a shortened 17 pdr firing different ammunition, though it did use the same projectile.
  8. I would get a larger truck. It should be cheaper to buy, as there is less demand for over 7.5 ton in the private market.
  9. The C1+E catagory does allow a train weight of 8.25 tons but this won't help as it only gives you a trailer weight of 750 kg gross. Your 7.5 ton truck would need to be light enough to carry the carrier and still remain under 7.5 tons. This weight also includes a full tank of fuel, crew tools etc. Most 7.5 ton beavertail type trucks are going to be around 4 tons unladen but I have seen it done. Running privately, you are unlikely to be stopped and weighed but that would be the risk you take. If you have an HGV licence, you can get a larger truck and then you have no problem. Still a plate and test and private HGV tax (is this still going?)
  10. The rules are very simple. A goods vehicle (a vehicle manufactured or adapted for the carriage of goods) over 3500kg gross manufactured pre 1960, used unladen, is exempt from plating and testing. A trailer is exempt under the same conditions. Private use only requires private tax, no O licence or CPC. Private tax precludes use in connection with any trade or business, not just for hire or reward. As Mike points out, you could probably get away with it for years. Unless you had a problem......
  11. Thanks guys, we had a good day, sort of! After Julia finished her horses, we flew up to Old Buckenham for lunch and then did a clockwise tour of the Norfolk coast, excellent visibility and smooth enough over the sea. Unfortunately, we have both spent the night with food poisoning :shake: Nothing to do with Old Buck I hasten to add, dodgy Pizza in the evening.... Feeling a bit weak and feeble at the moment! Adrian
  12. To be exempt from plating and testing, it needs to weigh at least 3500 kg gross. As it has a 15 cwt payload (750 kg approx), it needs to be 2750 kg unladen. You can check this on a weighbridge but I don't think it will come anywhere near that.
  13. Neil, why not buy my M75? Large hatch, very reliable, spares easily obtainable and it's unique in the UK.
  14. Yes, I'll be there, though maybe for only one day. I'll PM you nearer the time for contact numbers etc.
  15. Thanks guys, glad you all enjoyed it! It's good being able to take it somewhere that has 'roads' so you can actually drive about rather than just round in circles. Really enjoyed the weekend and was good to meet you all, look forward to next year..... Paul, sorry, the Sherman won't be at Beltring this year. Too much to do, too little time
  16. Except the first two are Israeli...... Merkava
  17. The 'runway' at Parham is actually 630 mtrs long, though I wouldn't like to try getting a B-17 in......
