  1. Who's Andy? :dunno: Anyway......., the Grizzly is a Canadian assembled M4A1 Sherman. Montreal Locomotive Works built 188 from July to December 1943. They followed the Ram on the production line. Only used for training in Canada during the war but supplied to Portugal post war. Ian McGregor imported about 45 in the 1980s and some ended up on ranges. Actually not that common in the UK now, can think of 9 1/2 off the top of my head. Adrian
  2. So they were presumably used for training to allow automatic fire.... learn something new every day! Probably not what was used in the execution though......?
  3. So what would be the point? I must admit, I've never heard of such a thing. A military blank round is just that, a blank, and produces no recoil at all. A .303 ball produces plenty!
  4. And finally, some slightly more odd ones, a battery of German artillery and a Gloster Meteor
  5. An M3 Grant many of you will have seen recently.....
  6. Black Prince and Churchill Bridgelayer
  7. M40 155mm sp and a Valentine 1
  8. I thought you might like to see some of the pics from my ranges album. I've picked a selection of rarer items, so you don't have to wade through endless shots of Shermans, Centaurs, Churchills etc.... First up, the two Grizzlies that were used to make one in Tank Overhaul. I took these in 1987 and 1988
  9. Regarding the blank rounds, anybody would know as soon as they fired that they had a blank. I can't really see the point. :dunno:
  10. Does it hide a 25 pr gun? I think I can see the tiniest bit of a firing platform under there..... Adrian
  11. The only potential problem with a case hardened part as opposed to a through hardened is rust pits can promote spalling of the hard surface. It depends on how deep the case hardening penetrates and what the part is doing. A good example is a cam follower. If the face is pitted, oil will be forced, under pressure of the cam, into the pits allowing the rest of the surface to be quicly eroded. Adrian
  12. The writing on your MUTT looks like Arabic, not Hebrew. Are you sure it was ex- Israeli? Adrian
  13. Exactly! You used to see this a lot a few years ago when the plating exemption was pre- 1940. Several GMC's were registered as 1939..........
  14. When I ran a WC-52, I weighed it and it was 2244 kg unladen, therefore 2994 gross. A 51 without a winch must be 150 kg lighter at least so it does need an MOT. You'll get away with it ok untill something goes wrong! The other thing to note is, the exemption applies to 'goods vehicle, pre 1960, over 3500kg gross, used unladen'. If you carry a load, you forfeit that exemption.
  15. I'm happy to help. The problem with the commercial side is, I believe, intent. If pics are taken with the intention of being used commercially, this is aerial work and requires a commercial pilots licence, public transport cat. C of A etc. If pics are taken for private use and subsequently end up being published, I think that is ok....I think! CAA aren't daft though, I'm sure they've heard it all before and being a Government Agency, they will assume you are guilty. Adrian
  16. Arse about face...... Citabria [attachment deleted by admin]
  17. Mark, Citabria, yes. RV, not at the moment, though here is a pic of someone elses! Adrian [attachment deleted by admin]
  18. Currently flying a Citabria but the RV9 is nearly ready and so by June, that's what it will be. Adrian
  19. Jack, no problem. Of course, it's all weather dependant..... Happy to take snapper, but pics can't be for commercial purposes I'm afraid, that's aerial work and I'd be in deep poo!
  20. I intend bringing the aircraft into some of the bases, HQ depending on final location, so if anyone want's to take some up to date aerial photos, let me know. Private use only, I'm afraid, can't do aerial work!
  21. Live local has better res, it's certainly possible to see individual targets there.
  22. Who, me? Umm, well, I erm..... What did you have in mind?
