question WW2 Air Ministry Airborne Compressor Trailer
Ian L replied to Ian L's topic in Trailers, plant and equipment
Somebody on the stationary engine forum sent me these photos of a restored prewar trailer like mine with the correct PU8 engine fitted. It is located in the aircraft museum at Flixton near Bungay in Suffolk, I am yet to make contact with them & go to have a look at it. -

Hi Tony it does look a very nice restoration, it appears to be missing its data plates so if anybody has the museums contact details I will willingly send them my plates and other parts left over from breaking mine. -

The pulley on the postwar 3 phase electric motor appears to be the correct one for the Petter PU8 ? so that's now removed & the motor has been 'weighed in' -

Project has moved forward massively, this turned up on ebay a few weeks back & I won it for £220 including the correct tool kit and a massive amount of other 'stuff' that I don't need. Engine is a WD unit & was rebuilt in 1945, lots of nice brass data plates. -

Hi PT thanks :-D see posts #95 #96 #107 The corner brackets I made, the long lid hinges came off a WW2 ammo box, the long lower hinge/catch I made from some shorter hinges, the top lid catches (not shown) are from a WW2 ammo box and the turn buckles you can get from here. let me know if you need assistance. http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listing/652/334525-TURN-BUCKLE.html?search=locker&page=2 Regards Ian -

Making a new start on the bowser again after months away from this project, almost finished the front storage box off. -
Hi Jerry http://www.speedograph-richfield.com/ made a speedo cable for my C8 a couple of years back, it was about £50 inc P&P if I remember correctly ? & they have also made a throttle cable for the C8 & a speedo cable for my Box since then. regards Ian

This arrived today, its a new Lockheed brass cup & seal. The verdict is that the new seals are fractionally harder material & have a larger rim & longer skirt, he was able to get a new repo seal to fit an original brass cup but only with some scraping to the brass cup & seal. I'm much happier now with an original :-D
-
Hi Peter DOT 3/4 but that new seal has never seen any brake fluid. we should know the answer tomorrow.
-
Hi Richard here's a couple of photos of the 2nd new seal & the brass valve, as you can see this one is also popping out so either a bad batch of seals or there's a fault with the brass section of the valve ? I phoned the kit supplier today & he gets his kits from the same manufacture as everyone else ? he's going to try some new seals into some secondhand brass valves & a new brass valve from an unopened Lockheed kit & get back to me.
-
Hi Tony its nothing to doing with hoses or brake adjustment, a master cylinder seal has popped out of it seat & folded over (see photos) the new seal kit does the same. Why ? poor manufacture ? anybody had the same problem ? I will be phoning the supplier today.
-
Last year I had the brakes fail on my Humber Box 3 times, the 3rd & final time was catastrophic (for the Audi Q5) Symptom was that the brake pedal would depress about 4-5 cms & lock solid but no braking effect, when I released the pedal & pressed again the brakes worked ok, I investigated the fault thinking it must be a linkage or pedal jamming on the chassis ? but no fault found. On the 3rd & final time the pedal stuck down but would not release, in the morning everything was ok again, brakes worked & pedal was free  Today I removed the master cylinder & on close inspection I found the rear seal distorted & unseated. I have a new seal kit so attempted to push the new seal in (which is shaped like a flat topped airgun pellet) but it would not seat in the base groove & kept popping out & distorting the sealing flange  Anyway I'm going to phone the wellknown supplier tomorrow and advise him that the seals appear to have a fractionally oversize lip & see if he's had any other queries ? Has anyone else had this problem or know of a remedy ?

What a shame about the Churchill, my favourite tank. #7 looks like a Centurion ?

Unlucky 13 ? is that a Churchill ?
