  1. The area around crank pulley is covered in oil and it blew back to the external brake drum, which on a long test run warmed up a little!
  2. So after reading that, thanks both, it wasn't a blue/green combo?
  3. One more thing, the bolt which bolts into the bottom of the fuel strainer keeps leaking fuel what is the remedy, it's as tight as I dare tighten it, yet still leaks, not when running, but after.
  4. Thanks Pete, it's a bodge I need at the moment until I can so it properly next week. Leaking oil all over the belt and going back to the brake drum which made for an interesting drive out today, as well as a smokey one!
  5. I need to do a quick gasket change on the sump gasket and timing chain cover gasket on the jeep before the weekend. Is it possible to change the chain cover gasket without taking off the bottom crank pulley. Can I just unbolt the cover and slip a new gasket in behind it?

    DO 17 raising

I suppose we could always give that sort of money away in foreign aid, so that it can be squandered away, rather than saving a piece of history with which to educate future generations...
  7. Been looking to mount my spare wheel carrier on the back of my 42 GPW. I've worked out where to mount it on the back thanks to some superb customer service from Cliff's daughter Lucinda at Universal Jeep. Question is, I have a 3 bolt scripted bracket for the wheel mount, some pics I have seen show a support bracket on the bottom of the wheel, but there are no holes that I can see in the back chassis to mount the support bracket. Is this a later addition or a recommended option? I could see why as the spare wheel would place a lot of stress of the back panel. Answers gratefully received.:-)
  8. I've got a 50cal jeep sidestep mount and Ohio section aerial up for sale if anyone going is interested in a purchase up there, plus a few Ferret and Champ bits and pieces.
  9. He was at M.K. Museums 1940's weekend last year, if you need his details give me a shout.
  10. Like it, what sort of price do you reckon it will get?
  11. I have to keep logging in when I access via iPad even though I keep pressing the remember me button.
  12. Page 81 Wartime Jeep in British Service, there is one reversing out of a glider. I have seen the big Cletracs in service but not until I saw this was I aware of the mini crawlers.
  13. I have seen a couple of photos in books with mini crawlers, could possibly be Cletracs being unloaded from aircraft. Does anyone know if there was a military contract for these and any pics would be interesting to see?
  14. Right, well it must have been in another book as Ive just been through that one 3 times and cant find the pic! Im sure it was in Italy, black and white pic of a bloke with his jeep looking out through his binoculars. I will have to trawl through some other material.
  15. In the book British jeeps in wartime service there are a few pics of a jeep with what appears to be a two tone splinter colour scheme, possibly blue and green. Has anyone more info on this, or can confirm what colours it is? Or any obscure colour pics of this?

Quite right, you could also say that instead of restoring an old military vehicle, just make a repro one instead. It would be just as good as a piece of tangible history as the original that was there at the time, that era, wouldn't it.....?

    DO 17 raising

Keep up the good work, part of which is keeping history alive , especially for the younger generation when this more recent history is off the syllabus. That is reason enough to bring it up and preserve it.
  18. Great pics, thanks for them! Must have been a helluva charge in the first one.
  19. Ahh, another C8, that was the one that was on Milweb recently?
  20. I like that, very good, I've just discovered Coloursplash on the ipad, you can turn a colour photo to black and white and then choose parts to highlight in the original colour.
