  1. Updated website for this years event, also on there are photos from last years event. http://mkmuseum-1940sweekend.weebly.com/index.html
  2. Does anyone know what has happened to the Mercantile Marine Forum?
  3. I need to take out the gearbox and transfer out of the jeep. Having to do it in the garage at home. Is this possible, if very awkward? Has anyone done it if so any tips? Do I need to lift off tub? Any tips gratefully received and will post photos on the progress as reference to others.:-)
  4. I do like the really old stuff. Are they easier to restore than the later ww2 vehicles as there are more flat panels and a very basic engine?
  5. Dawn patrol and Ian L live close, you could try them. W&p regulars.
  6. Thats the last thing I want in my tent!
  7. All your suggestions are brilliant and given me a right good smile:D. So the answer is , put a small child in the bottom of your sleeping bag with a protective dog and a hot water bottle, combine that with a wood burner with flue and lots of gaps in the tent. I bow to your knowledge...
  8. Considering a Trabant as a new vehicle. Did the eastern bloc army actually use them in military service, if so has anyone got any pics to share?
  9. We are fully aware of potential CO poisoning, we have 2 wood burners in the house with alarms by both of them. We were bloody cold weekend just gone in our "hi tech" tent and resorted to bringing our youngest in to act as a hot water bottle! The kids didn't seem to feel it. But the people camped in 9x9s, it must have been colder, just wondered how people overcome that, or do they just sleep somewhere else?!
  10. Wood burning stove? Isn't there issues with CO? (Carbon monoxide, not commanding officer!)
  11. Thinking of getting a canvas tent at some point. If we do then the family will have to be accommodated in it. I can imagine they would be a little on the chilly side. What do people do to heat their tents safely without any risk of CO poisoning etc?
  12. Like the ammo box cooker! I missed that one, wonder how efficient it is? That Antar was a fantastic looking machine.
  13. It was a good weekend, and I for one will be offering my services to help out instead of apportioning blame on the organisers or whoever. Next year will be bigger and better and if I can help with that it will be an honour. I will post some photos once I can figure out the other halls camera!
  14. It was a great weekend, lessons will always be learnt, but a cracking show especially as it is only in its third year. If you want a rear radio man I'll volunteer for next year. I was surprised to see the kids climbing all over it, but in a way it's good that you feel you can let them do that. I get twitchy when they crawl over the jeep, pulling and rattling wheels and levers, fair play to you for that. Friendly weekend, great people. Plus the marshals did cordon off a fair sized area when bringing the Freer Scammel in.
  15. Probably a daft question, but does it have 2 cylinder heads? If so, why?
  16. Me and the family were watching the swimmers and were stood exactly on the spot where Neil decided to reverse up the concrete bank! I have never seen my other half move so quickly, or indeed the kids! Great weekend though, Neil did say he would do it again, next year then, can't wait:)
  17. Totally peed off, spent all the evenings this week sorting the jeep out for this only to have a drastic gearbox failure, suspect oil seal gone in box, emptied out oil over handbrake drum which caught light on a test drive. Managed to put it out thankfully. More gutted for the sprigs as I had promised them a ride round the park on it. Will be there, just not with the green thing. So if anyone can offer a ride on the parade around the park, for me the missus and two sprogs I would be open to offers...

    DO 17 raising

It's not often that it happens, (puts note in diary), but agree with the Jack. When its gone or wrecked by the swirl of prop blades under the channel, it will be like it will never have existed apart from reference books.
  19. Aha! I taken out the rad, the oil filter pipe to the chain cover is fairly gone, outer rubber casing is kaput although inner pipe looks intact but will be replacing that anyway. Will try the fibre washer route to stop fuel leak, don't think ptfe tape is fuel proof. There is a large amount of oil on front diff and on top of the front sump guard which is leading me to suspect chain cover. As its running on the original engine without rebuild its only to be expected! Will check the threads as well, thanks for the advice, appreciated.
