  1. Better be... my "new" 75mm Pack Howitzer will need an gentle overhaul! Tim.
  2. I think the only safe approach would be an earth bank - if clobbered by something large and green, it wont break so easily.
  3. Not sure if my memory serves me right... but thought the MW, QL and OY all share the same master cylinder... and if so, therefore the RL... but where the pipe on the RL exits on the other side. Tim
  4. I recall being told by my step father (now dead unfortunately) that there was a vehicle maintenance yard adjacent to the rail link between Plymouth and Tavistock which was operated by the US Army. He said that in the days immediately after D-Day, where vehicles were damaged but repairable, they were shipped back to the UK, taken to the maintenance yard and repaired... but... that any scrap metal - engines, chassis etc were uncerimoniously dumped into a dis-used mine shaft to get rid of them... the shaft being deep enough to make it too much like hard work for anyone to try to salvage the material post war. Unfortunately I never found out exactly where this was! Tim.
  5. Geoff Welcome - Hope you're not desterting MLU now? Cheers Tim (WS9).
  6. Picture of my two Bedfords attached. 1) Solid 1) Pressed Tin Enjoy! Tim
  7. The continentals will be armed to the teeth - they dont care about the rules... but for that odd occasion you want a nice pic - borrow something from them rather than take it with you. But be careful - last year I borrowed a "deact" from a French reenactor in Provence... which we were able to chamber and fire a blank round through... Am proposing taking my 75mm pack howitzer... the paperwork for that has taken 6 months so far and still no news as to whether I will get the permits or not... without the correct paperwork, the Howitzer will stay at home. Tim
  8. Looks a lot like a Ford GPA - Amphibious Jeep. Tim
  9. Yup - This is for dispensing Telephone Cable - British Airborne kit. Tim
  10. Hi all Am looking for at least one, ideally two of these: Lamps, Operator, No3 - ZA4600 Please PM me if you have any for sale - happy to consider parts too. Cheers Tim
  11. Sorry if you though I was slagging you off - I wasnt intending to do that - more an expression of suprise that you'd not just booked the time off if it was something you wanted to consider doing. I guess different companies approach annual leave differently and maybe am lucky that mine allows me to cancel booked leave if I change my mind. I take your point that you'd rather be part of a tour than go it alone - I used to... and I assume that if everything goes well, you can have a great time. I've been on two Normandy tours. 1) Pete Gray 50th - we had absolutely no idea where we were going to be camping (other than somewhere in Carentan), or what the itinerary was when we got on the ferry after the Southsea show ended, let alone 6 months before the event was due to occur. 2) The MVT 60th Normandy tour - When we broke down, everyone drove off and left us to sort ourselves out... noone stopped... so from personal experience, am happy to be self-sufficient if necessary. For this event's communications, so far when I've had a question, I've emailed Martin and have had a response within a couple of weeks... the start and end dates have been published, so have the costs, vehicle and individual application forms sent out and returned. What comes next, that's up to the organisation committee. At this stage, it isnt realistic to do much more than perhaps send out key milestone dates for activities undertaken between now and the Ferry - too much is liable to change and I doubt it's clear what the daily movements are likely to be once over there. Eindhoven... 70th anniversary online data to date (that I can find). Dutch Tourist Board... http://www.vvveindhoven.nl/en/agenda/events/agenda/fakkeldefile/1126 - not much of any help... except it's on the 18th Sept... but has a link to the "18th Sept" webpage... http://www.stichting18september.nl/English/stichting.php - this at least gives you an idea of what might happen based on the 2013 itinerary, which it says was subject to change... absolutely nothing published for this year's 70th Anniversary... so if the town of Eindhoven hasnt published their itinerary, you can hardly expect this event's organisers to tell us exactly where we will be going and when. On the basis of the above for Eindhoven, am not suprised, or concerned that with 6 months to go, we dont have all the details yet. T.
  12. I booked my annual leave last year to encompass all dates I wanted to be in Holland for regardless of whether on this tour, another or going alone... because I want to be there... and at worst will make my own travel plans, find suitable accommodation along the way and see where it takes me. If you really wanted to be there for this anniversary, you surely would have taken the same approach, rather than complain that you now cannot get the time off because someone didnt communicate to you in time. Will be in Holland and will have a damn good time. T.
  13. Had a QLR once... had the aerial mast sections. Can certainly say - those on ebay are for something else. Tim
  14. Looking for original photos of "Bracket Aerial Base Mounting No 2" as per this drawing: Anyone have any please - or better still one I can get measurements from? Cheers Tim
  15. You're referring to the Air Support Signals Unit - you are correct, they also used the White (my interest is Phantom GHQ Liaison Regt) and have trawled google looking for pics... but dont assume from that I will have seen all the pics out there! Not tried WS19 group thanks - will drop them a line. Though have tried Louis Meulstee, the author of the Wireless for the Warrior series and he's been kind enough to send me the few pictures he has... we think his are also ASSU vehicles though. Cheers Tim
  16. I have this one (thanks!) - there are some useful drawings - but was really after original pics from the period. Cheers Tim
  17. Am looking for photos of the WS19, WS9, WS52 radio sets installed in the White Scout Car in 1944/45 to assist me with my restoration - specifically the WS9. Also external shots showing fitting of antennas, mounts, generator brackets etc. Many thanks Tim
  18. A friend of mine's car is off-road being renovated - she has valid road-tax, hadnt bothered surrender the tax disc to reclain any pennies, or to SORN it - but... she's been fined for having no insurance on a taxed vehicle - even though its not been on the road, never left the inside of her garage and it would be physically impossible to drive the car on the road in its current state! She assumed she was acting legally - working on the understanding that she only needed to insure a vehicle if it was being used on the public highway - this is apparently no longer the case - if it is taxed, it must be insured regardless of where it is kept. If off road, then it must be SORN'd if you plan not to insure.
  19. All Hope someone can advise correctly please. Will be importing a WW2 vintage US manufactured vehicle from France soon - this currently has a French Speedo/Odometer (not original to vehicle) which is in Kilometers, not miles. Can I register the vehicle in the UK with this Kmph Speedo/Odometer, or do I need to replace it with something in MPH? Many thanks Tim
  20. Lex I have the post op report for Varsity for 52nd Troop Carrier wing... will have a look through it - lists which gliders took off from where and where they landed and with what casualties. Tim
  21. Thanks - already there... but happy to have the recommendation as there's no guarantee I know about every website/forum going! Cheers Tim
  22. All Am restoring a White Scout Car to WW2 British Army Specification for NWE 1944. Specifically targetting Phantom GHQ Liaison Regt for this restoration. Fit out will therefore be the Canadian WS9. Am looking for photos / installation documentation for the Canadian WS9 or the later WS52 for the White Scout Car. Many thanks Tim
  23. A few more pics: Bearing plate British Tow Eye Elevation Clamp Fittings Tool/Sight Box Scarring to left side of trail - note this is off set with box the other side. For some odd reason quite a few of the data plates on these were made of lead and damaged easily. Tim
  24. Some pics of my 2nd Pack Howitzer carriage... showing some of the modifications and the elevation clamp (detached): Elevation clamp - repair work needed Rear Carriage - showing brackets for Sight Box, aiming post, handspike and top middle something as yet unidentified Front Carriage - showing scarring where sight/Tool box was welded to side of carriage (similar scarring on other side - BUT OFF SET) and plate with 3 threaded holes to attach block for Oil Can Not in view is wood block holding Bearing Arc plate or bracket to attach Elevation Clamp. Hope these are of interest. Can pop out into the garage anytime to take some more pics. Tim
