  1. I have a few Falklands related rubbish... minefield map, argie helmet and a pair of radios... think that's the sum of it. May well have it on the stall at Stoneleigh for sale if I can find it as now focussing very much into the WW2 period. Tim

  3. Adrian (Prof) Nice find - 3 euro... seems a bit pricey though! Will go nicely with your Jeep if you've decided to mark it up as British (perfect excuse to do so). I will see if Rob can trade me one of his repros sometime - should have guessed he might have one. AB412 and 413 will have to go on my things to find list - would be nice to have copies of real ones for the collection... am sure one will turn up somewhere sometime eventually. Amazing there aren't more of these around given that every British vehicle would have had one. I guess I should have spent the last 20 years collecting vehicle related stuff... not radios! Cheers Tim
  4. Tank stats for 264 Special Delivery Squadron RAC for June 45. Their workload changed due to cessation of hostilities from supply to recovery... and the "Preservation of Tanks"... what was this work likely to entail? Also... where did they park this many vehicles? Cheers Tim

AB413 - "A" Vehicle Log Book (AFV) AB412 - "B" Vehicle Log Book (Soft) Definitely WW2 period... here is a June 45 vehicle transfer receipt for my Sherman Firefly #289477. What are AFG 857 and AFG 875? Would be very interested to see what one of these books looks like - I have been told elsewhere that Bovington have some AB413s (they ought to if anyone does) - I've emailed them accordingly. Also be interested to see the AB412 - I assume every WW2 British Soft Skinned vehicle would have had one... presumably they were in the main destroyed when the vehicles were sold off? Next for me is to try to determine where 264 Special Delivery Squadron RAC would have taken the vehicle to... I have ordered the war diary in the hope there is some record of what they were doing. The rear of the receipt has this... Two vehicles... mine... Class 1, the other Class 4... what does this mean... hoping Class 1 is "excellent condition" and Class 4 perhaps "not so excellent". I found a reference in the archive of 21st Canadian Armoured Regt which says that they had to fire 1 decoppering round for every 100 normal rounds due to the amount of Copper deposit formed in the barrel. I've not heard of a decoppering round before... does anyone have any photos please to show how this differs from a normal round - or perhaps just descriptive text. As below... Many thanks Tim
  9. Am told that AB 413 was the AFV Vehicle Log Book used for WW2 AFVs. Is this correct, are copies of these books maintained anywhere for WW2 period vehicles, does anyone have one, even used which I could get some scans of please so I know what they recorded? Many thanks Tim
  10. I was led to believe that the smoke dischargers on the Saracen can also be used to launch grenades (60mm?) and therefore are required to be deact in the UK. Hopefully someone will confirm if this is correct, or not? Tim
  11. Adrian Very interesting - thanks. I think I'd prefer a smoke bomb which smokes on impact rather than one which leaves a smoke trail back to the tank... but then I suppose you'd hope the enemy aren't close enough to see the smoke trail! Cheers Tim

Looking around the web, there appear to be the following variants: 2in Bomb Thower Mk1 & Mk1A 2in Mortar Mk3 All are of the same basic construction, the following pics have been acquired from the web/museum/private sources. 2in Bomb Thrower Mk1/Mk1A 2in Mortar Mk3 So... questions therefore. Which came first Did they fire the standard 2in Mortar Smoke Bomb, or something modified. How effective were they Did the valve mechanism really affect the distance the bomb travelled Could they be used to fire the HE bomb What impact did venting the exhaust gas into the turret have Anyone know?   15. If you get it - don't throw anything away until you know exactly what the part is from... possible some of the add-ons may be useful to someone else if not for you.

Always sceptical of such rumours... but unless the W&P Revival website has been hacked... it would appear to be true as there is a statement on the main page to indicate this is the last one... unless someone else wants to take it on. Perhaps the Bicester Heritage site... loads of space and a nice historic setting in a central location... although, personally I'd prefer somewhere like Plymouth.
