important Jeep help needed please !
rampant rivet replied to rampant rivet's question in I may be stupid, but......
Just spent another three frustrating hours trying to sort jeep but no luck, have replaced old ht leads and cap checked points gap ok, checked tappets all ok replaced carter carb with my spare no improvement, am going to fit my SPARE REBUILT FUEL PUMP TOMO EVE BUT TO BE HONEST I AM RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS AS TO WHAT SHOULD BE CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. The thing starts when cool and ticks over ok running sweetly, but the moment you drive it down the road it all goes pete tonge with the engine running roughly and spluttering on tickover GRRRRR ! -

Thanks Pete am going to have another session tomo afty I think its a case of elimination, Jeep ran fine before we replaced a blowing exhaust manifold gasket, I wonder if some sediment in the carb is causing the trouble ??? -
Well would you believe it, just got my mates jeep sorted ready for Normandy and it starts playing up. It starts ok when cold and ticks over nicely then after a drive around the block it starts to run roughly on tick over and will not start very well when hot  We have changed the coil, condenser, rotor and plugs compression is good and its still not happy I'm thinking of fitting my carb from my GPW on it to see if that makes a difference or could it be fuel pump any advise much appreciated as the clock is ticking :nut: and if we cannot fix it I'll have to take my GP which will upset my mate who's 70 and was really looking forward to making this trip in his own vehicle. Regards a frustrated Rivet

After sorting the blowing exhaust gasket the jeep thing is now running badly GRRRRR  we have swapped coil ,condenser, plugs and rotor but its still not right. It will start ok when cold and tick over ok but when driven and warm it runs roughly and does not like starting we are now thinking carb maybe ????

Rubbed down the chassis yesterday ready for final coat of paint but have to be careful as a pair of Robins have built a nest on some shelving next to the truck so am concentrating on the woodwork for the cab floor for the time being till the squatters move out Tucked in behind the hub spanner are my new friends lucking I don't need anything under their nest. -

Thanks for the heads up have just booked tickets for the wkend must see two lancs flying together -
I use straight oils as per original spec have run the jeep on SAE 30 for over 20 years no probs so far  think MW is SAE 30 too.

Another evening session in the lock up, wing off, carb and stuff off and manifold removed no big problems apart from we know why the gasket failed because the inlet and exhaust faces were not flat so that will be sorted tomo.

Many thanks Iain for the info I know little about radios but know a bit more now

Better to sort these jobs now rather than the night before you travel or worse on the side of the road :nut: its not long to go now

As I wanted to take the Norton over to France this year and my mate Bill wanted to take the Jeep we thought we'd combine the two its not long now to we get away to Normandy so last wkend Bill gave his jeep a re spray We hope to use this Jeep to tow the Norton / trailer Managed to measure up the drop plate today for the trailer and thanks to my father we now have rear stop / tails and indicators, we now have to fit the plate check all is ok then deal with a blowing exhaust pipe and hopefully all will be ok. To be continued ...................................

Yes :nut: I enjoyed working out how it goes together today and will get my pet joiner to run out the timber this week , not sure what type of timber to use yet as the original looks like bog standard European redwood. Am looking for a fuel cap to match this one for my passenger side tank if anyone has one going spare. -
Cheers Paul sorry I didn't get chance to talk to you more at Dallas I wanted to ask how the jeep project was, many thanks for letting me have the pattern for the bow hoops will come in handy when I get around to the MW rear body :-D

After just having a new loom fitted to the champ I guess the restoration bit is over so now the adventures can begin As the sun was shining we thought it a good idea to take it for a spin around the forest stopping off for an ice cream at Mallards pike lake, then on to the blue bell woods at soudley Got of the beaten track great fun !

Started to sort the cab floor timbers today Think these are a tad too far gone :cool2: But are ideal for patterns I think, and the method of construction can be seen, the only measurement I'm not sure of is the rear cross member as I only have one end, I think I have it at 58 1/2" but will need to confirm I hadn't realised that the outside members taper in width front to back until I had good look at them, the devil is in the detail so they say. -

Not much happening at the mo as work has got busy which is a good thing for me but not for progress on the MW :undecided:, heres a couple of pics of the spare window frames I have for a later MW cab. They are a bit scabby but may be of use to someone, all the wingnuts are loose -
Good advice, I'd also add two breathaliser kits, French requirement, I kid you not !! :nut:, plus a head gasket which lives under my rear seat cushion on my jeep plus maybe a dizzy cap.

important MOD DDay70 Accreditation Form
rampant rivet replied to Scammell4199's topic in Future events and meetings
Yes I know what you mean I'm taking the Norton over and am staying at the Etreham campsite with the other DR's I've sent forms to MOD and the French site just to be on the safe side. I think it'll be ok once over there with only the 6th being restricted due to VIP's, depending on the weather I think I'll head up to Battery Longues and spend the day there and chill out, I'll have laid my wreath on the 4th or 5th at Ranville so will not have to go there on the 6th which will be nigh impossible. Yep I've had a reply asking for more details of my uncle who was killed on 6th June as I told them that the reason I was visiting Normandy was to lay a wreath on behalf of my family which had some effect.
