  1. As long as your vehicle is pre 1975 you can use silver on black number plates and do not need to provide any paper work, as I mentioned previously I have just bought a pair on epay for my 1939 MW no probs, cost around £18 and have never had any problems with anorak plods with any of my vehicles all of which have silver on black plates.
  2. Plenty of sellers on Epay that's where I got mine for my Bedford MW
  3. Hi Danny I wouldn't sand blast it if I was you, best to strip it down inspect everything for wear and probably replace the bearings, its a simple gearbox to sort and its small enough to clean with a wire brush in a small grinder. Regards J.
  4. Now the Railway contract has come to an end I have my life back again Tried a SMLE in the clips just to check for clearances and gave the front end a final coat of paint before starting to look a the spare engine block I found in the Cotswolds this morning. This really did look like a boat anchor but after a good clean up its on standard bores is in good shape and is stamped with an MW prefix so looks like its going to be rebuilt as a spare unit. Likewise the crank is 20 thou undersize so should be able to use that as well.
  5. After visiting bovvy on Sat to see the Tiger in action. First visit down t'shed for a while and managed to do lots of small jobs on the MW. First off the aero screens at last ! Then the piping along the bulkhead for the bonnet plus the holder for the spare spark plugs. Then the lower Bckts for the rifles and turn buckles for the access panels.
  6. Welcome fellow GPW owner My Jeep is ex British Army and I've no history it either :red:
  7. Yes Thanks Andy they still need some adjustment when I fit the original wooden steps but needed to fit the wings to keep them safe from being scratched or dinged.
  8. Thanks Wayno, Managed another long afternoon today sorted the front tyres and front wings inc number plate starting to look like an MW again :-). I know the front tyres aren't quite correct but as I am still looking for a pair of tracgrips these will do for now.
  9. Yep I agree with above advice I've used it in the Champs tank 3/4 yrs ago and all seems fine have done the MW's and am about to do the Nortons tank plus spare, though I would advise following the instructions fully.
  10. Just managed a few hrs this avo playing with t'mw, managed to fit the windscreen glass and front bumper/brush bar Time seemed to slip by and its soon time to pack up.
  11. Things have been a tad quiet lately due to another railway contract taking up all my evenings and weekends but as today was glorious I needed some R&R playing with the MW as the withdrawal symptoms were getting bad Distraction !! part of the contract for six carriages going out to Denmark Wings etc. getting their final undercoat Nice coat of greeny / brown stuff. Nice wooden steps as per original Maurice. Finally the bonnet support is finished , painted and fitted New radiator cover fits a treat
  12. Ok I'll take some pics of my spare carb showing where it all goes
  13. Just topped up the charge on my batteries on the Champ and I have used two type 075, SAE 90, 55AH units and they seem to do the job well though I do not have the original tray so cannot say if they will fit.
  14. Managed to add another finishing touch to the champ today with a nice first aid box and carrier, plus fired it up and charged the batteries too.
  15. Slow day I'nt shed due to windy and wet weather again, but did manage to fit windscreen seals to glass ready for paint, plus final fettling of timber bulkhead bonnet support and cover. And dropped one of the jacks in place.
  16. Pathfinder wartime Memoirs by D.C.T. Bennett, CB, CBE, DSO. Plus all the Chillwell Contract cards for Bedford MW,s That we had copied on our visit to the Tank Museum Bovington
  17. Jacks are funny things you wait for ages and then three come along at once Two nice 1940 dated ones and a good 1945 example I'll probably let the 45 and one of the 1940 dated ones go along with a 1941 dated jack I already have as I'll only need one for myself. Other than the trip to Bovy on Friday which was very interesting as there were a lot of early Bedford contract cards to look through all of the MW cards were copied for further research by the way . Work is still in progress on the front wings and Aeroscreens thanks to bob the builder for those just these elusive engine panels to sort now :nut:
  18. Well had a great day at Bovy and managed to copy all the MW contract cards that they had there inc the very early ones for the prototypes and ambulances, although the series of cards is incomplete it made very interesting reading. There is also a lot of OY,OX,QL etc if anyone should like to research their vehicle contract NO. Many thanks to Jonathon and gang for their help with copying etc.
  19. What a day I'nt shed !!! blowing a gale tin rattling and hissing down, so spent most of my time fettling the front wings. Then started on making the wooden steps. Need to round the top edge on three sides what do you think Maurice ? much better than those post war add on chequer plate things .
  20. Just to let you know that I'm off down to Bovy next Friday the 12th Feb to have look through what info they may have, should be interesting, a number of MW owners have contacted me and I'll see what I can do in the time permitted, anyone else who may wish their vehicle records looked up can still pm me. regards RR.
